New Delhi, May 2nd, 2012: Leading Home Entertainment Brand of Country, LG Electronics India today announced the launch of its latest series of Cinema 3D Smart TVs incorporating Cinema Screen design and large screen size 3D TVs.

Mr. Soon Kwon, MD LGEIL said “Technology and design are key factors behind LG Home Entertainment products. With our 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TV line-up, we have been able to take a significant step forward, thanks to a series of new and upgraded 3D features led by the CINEMA SCREEN Design.”

The CINEMA SCREEN Design translates the latest advances in LG’s Flat Panel TV technology into an aesthetically superior form. The Bezel that surrounds the new CINEMA 3D Smart TVs has been slimmed down to negligible levels (1 mm), creating a more optimal and comfortable environment for immersive 3D viewing. The picture goes virtually from edge to edge.

Talking about targets Mr. Soon Kwon added, “With 2012 Olympic to be broadcast in 3D and more than 30 English and Hindi 3D movies to hit Indian Cinemas hall, 3D entertainment is set to explode in India at a steady growth of 500%. We are targeting business worth Rs. 1000 crore from 3D TVs and aim to consolidate our position in the Flat Panel TV segment with 30% market share. To ensure the numbers we have an aggressive marketing strategy with a target investment of Rs.100 crore in Flagship product communication. This will be accompanied by experiential marketing campaigns.”

Mr. Soon Kwon, MD LGEIL with the LG Cinema 3D Smart TV

The new range of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs are accompanied by new CINEMA 3D glasses for 2012. Presented in four elegant series, the new glasses are 20% lighter than the previous ones, which were already the lightest in the industry, thus increasing comfort of users to watch countless 3D content for hours at a stretch.

Gamers will no doubt welcome the inclusion of Dual Play feature. For, it includes special glasses which allow two players see only their perspectives simultaneously on the full screen at once without having to split the screen. This elevates the gaming experience a full notch up, truly an encounter of the first kind.

Immersive 3D experience is accompanied by 3D audio in new range of Cinema 3D smart TVs. 3D Sound Zooming generates 3D sound that is synchronized with the displayed 3D content, allowing users to not only see, but also hear in 3D. The TV also boasts of innovations like Intel’s WiDi (Wireless Display) technology that enables easy and fast connection between TVs and PCs without requiring any internet, wires or wireless network.

As always, the new CINEMA 3D Smart TVs come equipped with LG’s Smart TV functions. Featuring exciting apps, LG’s Smart TV offers a variety of premium content services, including 3D World, where viewers can access a growing abundance of 3D content. Furthermore, the embedded 2D to 3D conversion engine makes it possible to convert any 2D show to 3D, thus making 3D content practically limitless.

One of biggest hits in 2011, LG’s Magic Motion Remote Control, is even more magical this year. With 3 enhanced modes – Pointing, Gesture & Wheel – it allows users to easily control their Smart TVs.

LG is expanding the 3D market in a big way with Cinema 3D Smart TV range and is now poised to offer the widest range of 3D entertainment products – 3D LED, 3D Ultra Slim LED, 3D Home Theater systems, 3D Blu ray players and the futuristic 3D OLED TV by second-half of 2012.

The Cinema 3D Smart TV range is available in 21 SKU’s from 32 inches to 72 inches in the price range of Rs. 55,000/- to Rs. 7,00,000/-. The new series hits the Indian market from May’12 onwards.

The Cinema Screen 3D Smart TV range is available in 5 series (LM8600, LM7600, LM6700, LM6690 & LM6400) in screen size of 32’’, 42’’, 47’’ and 55’’.

What is it about LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs that people love so much? The brilliant pictures and the top notch 3D quality? Or, the comfortable and affordable glasses? Maybe the really smart features?

Well, we can’t speak for every single customer, but we’re definitely glad to count PCWorld in our corner! PCWorld is easily one of the best known tech publications around, delivering highly regarded expert advice on the latest cutting-edge technology. It is available in 50+ countries. After choosing two LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV models at the top of its list of 5 favorite HDTVs for 3D viewing (#1 and #3), they also picked the LG Smart TV platform as their favorite in comparisons. Read more on PCWorld’s favorite 3D TVs here.

Most major TV makers offer Smart TV functions on top of TV products. But there’s a reason why the LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV platform performs so well in the tests and was chosen #1 by the tech gurus at PCWorld.

Put simply: the experience.

Here’s how PCWorld put it: “The LG Smart TV platform offers the best overall Internet experience.” We fully agree, and would add that the ease and comfort of the Magic Motion Remote Control makes it even better, especially with its simple point and click controls that make accessing Smart TV services on a LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV so much more pleasant.

See how smart LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs can be

PCWorld also found typing easier on the Magic Motion Remote Control as compared to conventional TV remote controls. And for people who really want a keyboard, we made a free easy QWERTY keyboard application for your iOS and Android device, which also makes it great for surfing the web.

We’ll gladly take the compliments! So, if you’re in the market for a new TV, an LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV should be on top of your list to try out.

Also, don’t forget that LG also offers a set-top box called Smart TV Upgrader that also provides the full smart TV experience when connected to your existing TVs at home! Read the original PCWorld article here.

Kicking off in Korea earlier this year, the LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival was such a wild success that LG decided to bring 3D gaming madness to the rest of the world. From Asia, Europe, the Americas, and even the Middle East, the festival is bringing gamers and non-gamers from all over the world together. Let us take you on a brief tour of some of the countries that LG CINEMA 3D Festival was held.

1. Lotte World Ice Rink in Seoul, Korea

Korea is well known for its games and world champion gamers. So when LG took an entire ice rink as the venue for the CINEMA 3D Game Festival, literally tens of thousands of gamers and non-gamers alike flocked to the 2-day event. The venue turned into a stage with massive 3D screen and it was packed with the latest LG CINEMA 3D TVs, LG 3D Monitors, 3D X-NOTE notebook computers, Optimus 3D smartphones, LG CINEMA 3D Projectors and more. The full line-ups of LG’s 3D gadgets were used to enjoy all different kinds of games such as Blizzard’s renowned StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, X-Box 360 Kinect console games, and wildly popular Korean online RPG game Lineage II.

The venue was packed with people (Left) with performances by Girls’ Generation (Right) and other K-Pop stars

Some of the hottest Korean celebrities showed up at the event, including an appearance by the beautiful actress Shin Min-a (also the model for LG X-Note computer ads), and performances by K-Pop mega group “Girls’ Generation.” Naturally, gamers went wild. Read more on the event here.

2. Gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany

Gamescom is the world’s largest trade fair and event for games and entertainment in Germany. It’s held every year and, this year, LG brought its CINEMA 3D Game Festival there. Over 10,000 visitors took time to drop by the LG booth at the event to experience amazing 3D gaming on LG’s 3D devices and to get a taste of LG’s CINEMA 3D total solution.

Can you guess who’s winning?

3. Mega Khimki in Moscow, Russia

In Russia, the event was held in Mega Khimki, one of the largest shopping malls in Moscow. A 370-inch 3D screen broadcasted living gaming footages of several local celebrity gamers, and other performances were also shown in 3D on the big screen for everyone to enjoy. Over 70,000 people crowded the venue to experience the world of 3D gaming presented by LG.

Lots of fun for all different ages (Left) and 3D performances by Russian celebrities (Right)

4. Dubai in the Middle East

The LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival in Dubai is not a one-time event like others. This one’s a little special. And the reason we say “is” is because it’s still on going right now! LG has set up 3D gaming equipment (CINEMA 3D TVs, CINEMA 3D Projectors, and more) at what’s called Living Rooms Video Games Cafes and is holding 3D game tournaments there until the end of this year. Contests are held on a weekly and monthly basis to seek the best of the best and the winners will face each other in a Mega Championship finale next year. Small and big prizes from T-shirts to CINEMA 3D TVs have been given out to winners.

Weekly winners at the LG Hall of Fame

5. BlizzCon in Anaheim, USA

Most recently, LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival made its way into BlizzCon, hosted by Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of Warcraft, Diablo and of course, the StarCraft Series. The event was held in Anaheim, California. LG showed off its full line-ups of 3D products. Gamers from all over the world at the event could experience the cutting edge 3D technology through all the different products.

People were literally at the edge of their seats watching games on LG’s massive 3D display

A new expansion to StarCraft II named Heart of the Swarm was announced at the convention, and it looked amazing when displayed on LG CINEMA 3D monitors, especially the D2342P model which was perfect for viewing dynamic game sceneries.

Gamers blown away by the games on LG 3D monitors

Some gamers were completely immersed in their games on CINEMA 3D monitors while others were literally on the edge of their seats while viewing game contests through LG’s 3D glasses. When you see the event, there’s no doubt about LG’s leadership in 3D technology and 3D gaming. Countless visitors had a blast as well.

The 3D Game Festival Continues to Conquer the World of 3D Gaming

LG has set out to dominate the world of 3D gaming with the Global LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival. From participation in major gaming events to holding various game events all over world, it has gamers jumping out of their seats. Aside from the ones that we’ve mentioned above, the Game Festival has also been held in Canada, China, and Brazil among others. And it will be held in many other countries by the end of the year. So keep an eye out wherever you are. If you’re lucky the LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival may be coming to your country!

LG’s CINEMA 3D TV has been turning consumers’ heads all year and it recently caught the discerning eye of the editors at PC Magazine.

In early May, they gave the LG CINEMA 3D 47LW5600 exceptionally high marks in one of their reviews. And just a week later, one of the magazine’s highly regarded tech writers, Will Greenwald, talked about how the industry is finally getting turned on to what he calls ‘Passive 3D.’ What it all comes down to, according to PC Magazine, is that the technology LG is using is the way the industry should go, and the 47LW5600 delivers on the promise of high quality 3D TV affordably and in style.

You’re probably wondering what ‘Passive 3D’ is, right? In tech-speak, it’s known as Film-type Patterned Retarder, or FPR. In a nutshell, it’s the key difference between the two main types of 3D TVs on the market today. Conventional 3D TVs use something called Active Shutter Glasses, which are heavy and expensive. To watch conventional 3D TVs properly, you have to stay in the line of sight of the HDTV’s infrared emitter. Worse, the glasses are large and bulky, making them uncomfortable to wear, and the constant flickering can cause serious eye fatigue.

LG gets around those problems with FPR technology in its LG CINEMA 3D 47LW5600, which PC Magazine awarded a 4.5-star rating and named an Editors’ Choice. The magazine was definitely enthused about the much cheaper price of the LG CINEMA 3D TV. But that wasn’t the only reason for recommending it. It also praised the outstanding picture quality, in both 2D and 3D, while talking up the 47LW5600’s many great features.

So how about that 3D quality? To test it, the magazine compared watching the 3D movie Avatar on the 47LW5600 with a conventional 3D TV. As writer John R. Delaney puts it, “I was blown away by the panel’s depth and clarity. The entire picture was crisp and image detail was exquisite throughout. The picture remained bright and color quality was spot on.”

He also gave the 47LW5600 high marks for its design and functionality, pointing out the sleekness of the elegant black bezel, the easy side-accessibility to key ports (4HDMI, 2USB), and the unique Magic Motion remote, which operates almost like a mouse together with the 47LW5600’s incredibly intuitive UI. “I couldn’t put it down once I started using it and would love to see this technology make its way into all TV remotes.”

And don’t forget power consumption. The review referred to the 47LW5600 as a “power miser,” pointing out that the unit consumes just 95 watts on Cinema mode even with the power saving feature turned off. Delaney gave it his “GreenTech stamp of approval” for costing less than $2/month to operate.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to those 3D glasses. As PC Magazine points out, “passive is where it’s at.” Active Shutter types are big, inconvenient, and very expensive, Delany argues, with an average pair costing more than $100. LG ships 4 pairs for free with its CINEMA 3D 47LW5600, they’re comfortable, and you can view the TV from any angle in the room without any eye fatigue.

Here’s the final word from PC Magazine on why the LG CINEMA 3D 47LW5600 earns a 4.5-star rating and its coveted Editor’s Choice award:

…the LG 47LW5600 delivers excellent 2D and 3D picture quality, and unlike most 3D HDTVs it comes with the glasses to accommodate a family of four. You also get wired and wireless networking, a cool Magic Motion remote, a nice selection of Web apps, and energy-efficient LED backlighting. At just $1,700, this set is one of the best HDTV deals around, so it’s our Editors’ Choice for 3D sets.

3D TVs are all the rage these days. They are the talk of the industry, especially as more and more 3D content becomes available and prices for the TVs come down to a more affordable range. And what’s really amazing is that the industry is projecting a jaw-dropping 23 million 3D TVs to be produced this year. That’s a five-fold increase from the 4.2 million manufactured last year. Production numbers alone speak volumes about the level of consumer interest.

And, with its outstanding technology, LG CINEMA 3D TVs are at the center of attention. Earlier this year there was a lot of heated debate about the different types of 3D technology. LG uses the Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) Type in its CINEMA 3D TVs, the superiority of which was confirmed in a report released by iSuppli, a globally renowned market research company. According to iSuppli, the number of FPR Type 3D TVs will surpass the number of Shutter Glasses (SG) Type by 2015. With LG as the established leader in FPR Type technology, the future of technological advancements looks very bright.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the key reasons why LG’s 3D technology is superior to the conventional 3D with this video.

It’s easy to see the true value of LG CINEMA 3D TVs and how far they surpass SG types when it comes to flickering and viewing angle, something that has been confirmed independently by a variety of media around the world.

For example, “What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision,” a UK-based magazine for audiophiles, makes the case even more strongly.

* A review magazine on consumer electronics published in UK,’What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision’ is recognized for its prestigious review and guide to buying and owning home entertainment products. More than 500,000 copies are sold every month.

In its TEST VERDICT section, the magazine compared watching the movie Avatar in 3D on a LG CINEMA 3D TV (model #47LW650) with a conventional SG type 3D TV. The magazine pointed out many of the 47LW650’s strong suits but, where it really shone was the stress-free viewing.

There’s a lot to like about the LG 47LW650T: it delivers a convincing case for passive 3D technology, you get all those 3D glasses as part of the package and we found it restful to watch without the fatiguing crosstalk of some active-shutter designs…the 47LW650T is definitely worth putting on your shortlist.

The magazine gave it a 5-star rating. Furthermore, American IT magazine PC World claimed that LG’s FPR 3D TVs have superior 3D effects when compared to conventional 3D TVs, while CNET’s Asia edition also gave LG CINEMA 3D TV 4 stars on the 15th and selected it as an Editor’s Choice!

As the market for 3D TVs continues to heat up, consumers and media will continue to take notice of LG Electronics’ powerful 3D technology. We’ll continue to bring you all the good news, so stay tuned!

Nobody likes to get hit over the head with an advertisement. When we advertise our CINEMA 3D TVs, we want people to enjoy the ads as much as they enjoy our TVs. Definitely easier said than done, because making great ads that really resonate with people is a complex, often hit-or-miss process.

And it’s worth pointing out that with so many new ads coming out each day across the digital frontier, it seems like it’s getting harder and harder to create truly memorable ones.

Recently a leading global research company by the name of Millward Brown picked our CINEMA 3D TV ads as the best-liked ad from July 2010 to June 2011 in South Africa. And we couldn’t have been happier.

The “LG 3D TV: More Fun” ad was developed as part of LG’s global ad campaign for our FPR-type CINMEA 3D TVs, delivering the message that LG CINEMA 3D TVs, using LG’s outstanding FPR technology, could make 3D TVs much more enjoyable.

The “More Fun” ad campaign is an ad based on a humorous lab test, showing the superior brightness of LG CINEMA 3D TVs compared to conventional 3D TVs.

As Millward Brown stated in their news release, LG “used a humorous creative strategy, which always works for consumers. And at a time when brands were cutting marketing budgets, the ad worked across markets worldwide.”

The choice shows that these ads stick to our goals of delivering what conventional 3D TVs simply can’t: a truly comfortable and enjoyable 3D experience.

According to Millward Brown, “a great advertisement grabs the consumer’s attention, stays true to the brand, affects the consumer’s brand experience, and engages and entertains, while sending a clear and simple message.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Take a look the ad below. It speaks for itself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSgTyyq8-To&feature=youtu.be

Did you ever snap a picture of that complex diagram you drew on your office white board so you can make space to draw another?

Just a year ago, even that solution was pretty high-tech. Snap the photo with your smartphone, beam it via email to the server, and then download it to your PC where you’ll recreate the image using some graphics program before popping it into a PowerPoint presentation for next week’s big sales meeting

Not bad. But what if there was a better way, something that lets you be even more creative and that fosters better team collaboration at the same time? LG’s new Pentouch TV can accomplish both, while at the same time even handling mundane tasks like helping you to take and share meeting notes.

It is the newest high-tech device in the office arsenal and here’s how it works: First, it’s based on plasma TV display technology, which produces its own infrared waves that are invisible to the naked eye, with each cell on the TV’s display emitting its own signal organically. The special pens that come with the TV are calibrated to home in on each and every cell so that the computer knows precisely where the pen is pointing. Using easy-to-install and easy-to-use software, all you need to do is install the program onto a computer and connect it with the Pentouch TV.

The touch pen recognizes the plasma light cells emitted from the panel and the TV precisely pinpoints the position on the screen

This simple and elegant solution now makes it possible for the user to not only be able to handle icons on the screen just like a wireless mouse, but also to write and draw directly into documents and presentation files with precision. You can even use the pen to highlight whole sections that you want to remember or have stand out, achieving exactly the same translucent effect you get with a real highlighter pen in any color you want.

Now think again about that meeting with your colleagues. Instead of a whiteboard and marker, you can pick up the LG Pentouch TV and draw that diagram directly into the PowerPoint file that you’ll use for the sales presentation and save it instantaneously. You can also recall and edit pictures, documents, and presentations that you’ve created and saved elsewhere.

Even getting reference materials during the meeting is easy. As long as you’re connected to the internet, just open a browser and use the pen to search for what you want as you normally do with a mouse. In this case, imagine doing it seamlessly while you’re standing and talking during the meeting. You’ll never miss a beat. And when you do find the page that you want, you can capture the information with the pen and drop it into your presentation. It’s that simple.

By simple clicking with internet connection, you can immediately share the meeting discussion points with your colleagues

And it’s not just a time saver. It also holds the promise to change our communication paradigms. Instead of starting each meeting with a static stack of paper documents or blank white board, now we can start with an open document on a big screen—take your pick from any of the programs in the MS Office suite—and, with the two pens provided, share stories and create ideas as a group more effectively and in real time.

It’s not hard to imagine the fun you can have with the LG Pentouch TV. LG also provides highly valuable creativity software that will really let your artistic side shine. But when the meeting starts, when it’s all about great communication and exceptional productivity, that’s where a true professional armed with the latest technology can really make a difference.

LCD TVs currently take up almost three quarters of the marketplace. But not all LCD panels are created equal.

There are important technological differences that don’t often get talked about when you go to the store. If you know about those, you’ll be able to make a better purchase and know precisely why you have to have a TV with an IPS-type panel.

When it comes to LCD TVs, there are really only two types to talk about, Vertical Alignment (VA) panels and In Plane Switching (IPS). As you can guess the main difference is how liquid crystals are aligned: Unlike VA types, IPS are horizontally laid out.

VA panels have some great strong points. For example, they can be very good at blocking light and creating deep blacks and contrasts. But what really sets the two types apart is the pixel structure.

VA panels use something called a non-homogenous electric field and two transistors per pixel. In comparison, IPS panels have a homogenous electric field and the ability to drive liquid crystals simply and efficiently. The result is a much faster response time with a very wide viewing angle that provides crisp and bright images without any color distortion.

What this also means is that IPS-based LCD TVs offer more vivid pictures without any motion blur because the signals can travel more quickly through the homogenous electric field.

Another unique aspect of IPS is that when the surface is pressed or tapped, the picture remains stable, without flashing or leaving residual images. It’s something you can easily see for yourself at one of our LG brand shops.

This characteristic is great if you have young kids who often feel the urge to get up close and personal with the TV screen. They can touch the screen all they like and there will be no light flash or residual deterioration of the screen.

It’s also an excellent choice if you use it in an office and make a lot of presentations because it lets you feel confident about touching the screen directly as opposed to having to keep your hand or pen hovering over it.

With VA screens, if you touch it, you’ll see water waves and eventual color degradation of the panel. IPS screens are comparatively much sturdier, which also makes them perfect for touch screens. And that’s one of the key reasons why Apple chose IPS for its iPhone.

On top of all that, the colors are also exceptionally consistent even when you view from a wide angle. Another factor that you can chalk up to the simplicity of the structure and that homogenous electric field is the fact that IPS is more energy efficient. VA panels, as mentioned above, use more than one transistor per pixel, which requires more power.

The superiority of IPS is also well recognized by many professional experts, such as graphic designers and surgeons, people for whom exactness and quality really do matter.

So when you go to buy your next TV, make sure you ask about the panel, and don’t be afraid to knock on it and see what happens. Is it an IPS or VA? The winner is clear.

Buying a TV these days can be a bewildering affair. There are so many types and features to choose from and a lot of promises are being made about what the TVs will do for your life. And, we admit it (guilty as charged!), sometimes we do use more than our fair share of jargon when we talk about our products.

There’s just so much great, cutting-edge technology packed into the TVs and we want to talk about it all! And some of it does get kind of techie, so it’s hard to break it down in an easy way. Also, some features have become so common that we don’t really talk about them anymore. Full HD is a great example, and an important one, because these days 3D is becoming more and more popular.

In fact, some of our competitors have criticized LG CINEMA 3D TVs, raising questions about whether LG CINEMA 3D TVs are HD or not. Well, let’s find out what being Full HD really means and you’ll see why people are lining up on our side in this debate.

First, Full HD is actually pretty simple. HDTV, or High Definition Television, is generally defined as having 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. Full HD TVs are able to accept high definition signals and show them on the screen with those same 1080 lines.

And if the question is, are LG 3D TVs also HD, the answer could not be clearer. Here’s how it works: In 3D mode, the TV produces two stereo images, each of which has 540 lines. Using LG’s FPR, or Film Patterned Retarder technology, those two images are harmonized by our 3D glasses, giving viewers a single 1080 image with a lot of depth. And that’s it in a nutshell, Full HD 3D TV.

And remember, you don’t have to just take our word for it. Recently, the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (also known as VDE, from the original German), certified our 47LW570S model as Full HD. The VDE is one of the largest, most respected associations inEurope and it’s a privilege to have their recognition. We’ve come a long way since the days of standard definition, with its average resolution of about 500 lines!

By the way, LG CINEMA 3D TVs have also been certified as flicker-free by Intertek and TÜV. What does that mean? Well, unlike conventional 3D technologies that use expensive shutter-type glasses that often leave viewers with feelings of vertigo, viewers using an LG CINEMA 3D TV enjoy their 3D affordably and comfortably. No Flickering!

We think that’s a winning combination: Beautifully crisp, Full HD images seen in total comfort, and without spending a fortune.

People experiencing a home theater system in their living room for the first time often call it a moving experience. In fact, it can be quite eye-opening.

Nothing really prepares you for all those ambient sounds floating around behind you—the people talking in the coffee shop just off the screen to the right or the sound of a motorcycle zooming by you on the screen to the left. First-timers often catch themselves physically turning to see if it really did just drive by.

We’ve gotten so used to the unidirectional sound coming from our TV sets over the years that we just don’t know what to expect when we hear it for the first time. Even some of the newest TV models boasting great sound can’t compete with a 5-speaker home theater system. Many of them pump out some pretty big wattage. But the depth of sound on a home theater system is something else again. It expands the field of sound and immerses you into it, as opposed to having it come straight at you from the front.

For movie aficionados, there’s really no substitute if you want to recreate theater effects at home. And for sports fans, a home theater system really can put you at the center of the action. Imagine sitting in your living room watching a baseball game and, suddenly, a heckler yells something at the pitcher from directly behind you. After you realize that the guy is not in fact in your living room, you’ll catch your breath and marvel at how truly advanced sound has become. It’s amazing.

Well, LG just created something new to take your breath away: the LG CINEMA 3D SOUND Blu-ray™ Home Theater HX906TX.

The difference starts with the fact that it’s a 9.1 speaker system. On the tallboy speakers you see above, LG placed four upright 3D speakers which pump sound upward. By filling the sound field above the listeners’ heads, it’s like installing four height channel speakers, as they’re known to industry professionals, on the upper wall. This is possible because the 360° reflector inside the upright 3D speakers disseminates sound evenly to the entire room, letting the sound shower down on the listeners.

Now imagine the sound.

By creating a new dimension in sound coming from above, instead of just coming at you from your left, right, or behind, it truly envelops you as the sounds transport you to the scene.

On a standard home theater system, the sound of a helicopter might be recreated off to the side or with a back speaker. But with the new 3D sound, the sound actually rushes over your head as the helicopter does on the screen. You can be forgiven for ducking because it really is that dramatic. And as anyone who’s seen a 3D movie before knows, the ducking is half the fun!

All this is made possible by LG’s unique DSP technology, which includes Sound Field expansion and 3D Sound Analyzer. While Sound Field expansion allows listeners to enjoy high quality 360 degree sound no matter where they are in the room, the 3D Sound Analyzer analyzes the complex layers of sound to bring even the smallest details to life.

We tested it out recently in Moscow with some top sound journalists and they were blown away. Alexsey Korneev, editor for top AV magazine STUFF, writes, “Home Theater? No, this is more than just a device. LG created an entertainment-cultural complex with IMAX cinema, dance floor, computer club, and also exhibition of best designer solutions.”

The beautifully designed speakers are a perfect fit with any interior

On top of the sound, the new CINEMA 3D SOUND Blu-ray™ Home Theater looks great and acts even smarter. The design incorporates a premium cubic look with a metallic silver hairline.

It also works intelligently and conveniently to provide outstanding Smart TV functions, including a wide array of premium content and apps. If you have an iPod or iPhone, you can simply cradle it to enjoy your own playlists and you can even download an app that converts your smartphone into a remote for your Home Theater. It also supports a more convenient method of sharing of all your media, including movies, pictures and music, via DNLA and Wi-Fi Direct™.

Eye-popping, jaw-dropping sound, because 3D is more than just a visual thing and your ears want in on the action. But don’t just take our word for it. Why not head to the store and hear the difference yourself. We’re sure you’ll catch it in the first split-second.

Can you imagine watching Jaws in 3D without the music? (Remember this music?) I think we can all agree that it just wouldn’t be the same movie. The sounds go hand-in-hand with the sights and, especially with this kind of gripping 3D drama, the music is vital to getting the 3D effect just right.

And that’s exactly why companies like LG are working hard to develop 3D sound technology. You’ve heard about 3D images but not sure what 3D sound is, right? Keep reading to find out what 3D sound is all about and why it’s really turning heads.

Just for a second, think about why we have those great sound experiences when we’re at the movie theater. When you’re watching an action movie, for example, you can literally hear bullets whizzing past your ear, individual raindrops hitting the roof overhead, or even the faintest of whispers off to the side. The auditory effect in concert halls and opera houses can be even stronger. Why?

In fact, these spaces are specifically engineered to deliver the ultimate sound experiences to the audience, with carefully crafted acoustics prepared to bounce the sound in precisely the right directions to amplify and qualify it. These sounds travel across the entire hall, allowing the people to experience rich music coming from all different directions, whether at ear level, or from above their heads.

At home, it’s difficult for a TV to compete with the experience of a movie theater or live concert hall because if you’ve only got two speakers, all those individual sounds are mashed together and sent out in the same direction. You also don’t have the unique ambiance of the theater delivered by those wonderful acoustics.

In an opera house, if everything is quiet, you really can hear if a pin drops.

Home theater systems make a great start at recreating this experience at home, especially because they begin with multiple channels. Ten years ago, 2.1 channels were common, giving you two speakers and a sub-woofer for the extra bass. Now, 5.1 channel systems are becoming common, and even 7.1 channel systems are appearing. As sound recording technology improves, the ability to deliver true 3D sound to consumers at home is here.

Are you getting a better idea of what 3D sound is? Sound is already three dimensional and even people with 5.1 channel home theaters appreciate its great surround sound effect. But, as outstanding as they are, 5.1 channel systems can’t deliver sound coming from over the top and this is precisely why LG has developed the truly innovative 3D home theater system, to fill out those upper levels of sound.

LG Home theaters range from 2.1 to 5.1 channels, and all the way up to 9.1 speaker 3D SOUND systems

LG’s cutting edge CINEMA 3D SOUND Home Theater System takes the major advances of all-in-one multichannel systems and pushes them to a higher level, literally. Using truly innovative technologies such as LG’s Sound Field Expansion and 3D Sound Analyzer, the system takes the home out of the home theater, and take you directly to the middle of the scene. It works with a special 3D reflector in the four upright 3D speakers, much like the reflector system in opera houses and concert halls. This reflector bounces the sound upwards in multiple directions to create a dome of sound that fully envelopes you.

Now, instead of just hearing sound coming straight at you or even from behind as with conventional home theater systems, the CINEMA 3D SOUND Home Theater System also drives the sound from multiple angles overhead. It creates a new dimension of sound coming from above.

We’ll be covering more about LG’s CINEMA 3D SOUND Home Theater System in the next post, and you won’t be disappointed. You have to see…er… hear it to believe it.

We take a lot of pride in our ability to bring a full range of truly innovative products to people around the world. And we’re always grateful when others recognize our innovations.

We were pretty ecstatic, for example, when Thomson Reuters named LG as one of its Top 100 Global Innovators. And we were absolutely bowled over when the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) inLas Vegasbestowed 12 CES 2012 Innovations Awards on us.

In TVs and Home Entertainment, two new CINEMA 3D Smart TVs (models LM9600 and LM8600) each took an Innovations Award, powered by LG’s outstanding Film Patterned Retarder-Type technology, which provides truly breathtaking 3D images and a comfortable viewing experience.

These two sets also offer access to virtually limitless online content with Smart TV connectivity, including premium on-demand viewing services like Netflix and Hulu.

And what else could go better with an innovative TV, than an innovative Blu-ray™ player to serve up all those amazing pictures? LG’s 2012 flagship Network Blu-ray Disc™ player, the BP720, also took an award, with its outstanding design and brilliant 3D and 2D pictures and sound.

What if you’re dying to access the limitless content available on LG’s Smart TV platform, but don’t have one of our state-of-the-art 3D TV? Well, there’s a solution for that.

LG’s new Smart TV Upgrader, the SP820 also took home a CES 2012 Innovations Award. It gives you Smart TV connectivity even if you haven’t given up on your older model just yet. (Don’t worry, we understand. It’s hard to part with an old friend!) Just plug it into your TV, and you’re just a few clicks away from accessing all of LG’s premium apps and on-demand 2D and 3D content.

LG’s flagship PDP model PM9700, and beautifully designed audio ND85720 also took home CES Innovations Awards.

Innovative CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, innovative Blu-ray Disc™ player, the innovative Smart TV Upgrader, and innovative audio. LG has something innovative for everyone interested in watching great content on a great TV at this year’s CES. So, head on over to the LG CES newsroom to check out more details!

Connectivity is the name of the game these days, and once you connect your Smart TV to the internet, you can surf the web, download applications, tweet… The list goes on.

But what about your own content? Sharing all the pictures and videos stored in your notebook on the big screen is not always so easy. All the cables for video and audio, switching inputs and outputs… it’s not exactly a walk in the park, and definitely not very “Smart.”

Well, that’s about to change.

The new line-up of LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs that we recently unveiled at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) inLas Vegasfeatures something called Wireless Display technology from Intel. We call it WiDi for short. We worked closely with Intel to integrate WiDi into our LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, and we’re the first to do it.

It allows instant, high-definition viewing of content stored in notebooks and other mobile devices on large screen TVs, and even projectors and monitors.

Here’s how it works: First of all, throw away all your cables because you won’t need them. You won’t even need a wireless internet network in your house. Using your notebook’s Wi-Fi chip, the TV will automatically make a connection with the Wi-Fi chip embedded into the CINEMA 3D Smart TV and that’s it. You’re ready to stream all that great content.

And if you’re wondering whether you’ll also be able to connect to your regular WiFi while your notebook is talking to your TV, the answer is an emphatic yes! That means you can surf the web while watching videos stored in your notebook computer, right on your big screen TV, all in real-time.

Now that’s what we call smart. In fact, we’re pretty sure that our new lineup of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs is going to redefine the Smart TV as we know it. So make sure you get WiDi, and get ready for a smarter TV experience.

The most popular mobile operating platform in the world has made its way into LG 3D Smart TVs. And that’s great news for anyone who wants not only the ease and convenience of being able to surf at will from their couch, but also for anyone who wants access to the entire webiverse of outstanding content on a gorgeous big screen TV.

The partnership was unveiled at the CES inLas Vegasin January and we couldn’t be more excited about it. You may have heard of Google TV from other manufactures before, but this isn’t like anything you’ve seen or heard of. This is a coming together of Google’s wildly popular Android OS with LG’s outstanding 3D and Smart TV technology.

Now, we don’t say this often but, let’s forget for a moment about all those great features we pack into our TVs. The first thing that will strike you is that it’s so easy to use. The combination of the Android based interface and apps, with the Magic Remote specially designed for the TV works, well, like magic.

The Google TV Magic Remote developed by LG has more than a few tricks up its sleeve. It works like the standard Magic Remote with an on screen pointer. You can wave it around and hover the pointer to what you want to access and click. There’s also a directional pad on the remote, so you can surf from on box to another with a simple click of the arrow. When you’re surfing pages of content, you also have a scroll wheel, getting rid of the need to search for the scroll bar on your screen.

But the real secret is in the backside of the remote. Whenever you miss your keyboard when surfing the web, flip your Magic Remote over and you’ll see a full Qwerty keyboard waiting for you. And what good is a Google TV without Google’s popular Chrome browser and the world’s most popular search engine?

So when something pops into your mind, just hover your pointer to your Chrome browser, flip your remote over, and start typing. That’s how we search on our computers, and that’s exactly how we can do it on LG’s new Google TV.

Equipped with LG’s CINEMA 3D technology and Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, it also delivers exceptional 3D pictures, with battery-free and lightweight glasses. It’s really an ideal TV for 3D viewing with family and friends, and for taking full advantage of all of Android features that works seamlessly.

You wouldn’t expect anything less from LG would you? Head over to our CES Newsroom to read more. (Go to LG Newsroom)

It’s your worst nightmare: squiggly lines all over your wall in neon greens, yellows, and reds. Paint stains on your brand new carpet. Handprints and smudges that seem to forever reappear on your white countertops. Sounds familiar? If it’s not your 5-year old, it’s your 2-year old. That’s right, the ones who make you see red. Their creativity can take your breath away and drive you crazy at the same time.

Okay, take a breath and calm your nerves… Have you ever thought that your wall might be too small for your child’s imagination? What’s your child trying to tell you with all that creativity? Instead of scrubbing their masterpieces off the wall, wouldn’t it be nice if you could save them in a file electronically to hold forever?

LG’s new Plasma Pentouch TV may just be what you—and your child—are looking for: unlimited space where they and the whole family can draw to their hearts’ content.

I can practically hear what you’re thinking now: “it must be difficult”. In fact, Pentouch TV is similar to how you intuitively navigate your smartphone and computer mouse. The light source for plasma TVs naturally emits light through the cells, and the pen recognizes it, making it possible to touch the screen to control the TV. The user-friendly pen is the main controller, transforming your TV screen into a sketchbook, following all your movements precisely to create all the lines and colors being imagined.

Once the LG’s Pentouch Software is installed, you simply connect with your computer, quickly calibrate the pen, and you’re off. Hand it over to the kids and watch them draw rainbows of color on the TV Screen and decorate family photos taken with the family digital camera.

You can see the intuitive user interface both on the TV and on the PC

Mom and Dad can use it to create family diaries and to-do lists, and enjoy everything that’s been created later in the intuitive Gallery function. It organizes everything easily for you by calendar date. And it’s all easily printed by clicking the printer icon at the bottom of the screen, so you can quickly turn your house into an art gallery—without that red crayon on the wall!

We know that parents today are thinking deeply about their children’s education, too. And that’s where the LG Pentouch TV really shines. Parents can simply pop in any educational CDs or DVDs that they picked up at the store and use the Pentouch TV to walk their child through the learning process together, interactively. It can be a great bonding experience.

Imagine the possibilities when your son or daughter’s friends come over. The entire screen can be turned into a wonderfully interactive whiteboard. It’ll keep them busy and happy, while they create something new and fun each time. And because you can connect the TV to the internet, parents can also access the wealth of materials available online. Internet connectivity also allows children to enjoy various web-based games as well.

LG also made sure to focus on safety and durability, with a strong TV stand that fully supports the TV so it won’t tip over, and special protective glass that makes sure the screen stays clean and damage-free. And to protect your family’s eyes, the TV has a special mode that takes the glare off the screen and allows your child’s eyes to adjust.

LG’s Pentouch TV combines all the charms of the old-fashioned family scrapbook with the infinite promise of tomorrow’s best technology today. It’s exciting to see the potential this new technology holds for families. It only gets better from here!

With over 1,000 companies showing off their latest cutting-edge technologies to the public, the Korea Electronics Show is the single largest electronics exhibition in Korea. That’s how the organizers bill it and that’s how it turned out, staged in the massive confines of KINTEX just on the outskirts of Seoul, with journalists, buyers, and consumers alike flocking to the event for three days starting from October 12th.

Naturally we couldn’t miss out on such a great event and opportunity, so we loaded up our gear and went to check out the scene.

To no surprise, the venue was packed with manufacturers boasting their latest state-of-the-art technologies and products. Hopping from booth to booth, it was hard not be dazzled by all the cool technology. It was everywhere and it was impressive!

Also not surprisingly, it wasn’t difficult to find LG at the exhibition. In fact, the highlight of the entire show was right there at the entrance of the LG Booth: a massive 3D screen that was simply breathtaking. The pictures were literally popping out of the screen and we couldn’t wait to get inside.

People couldn’t take their eyes off the massive 3D screen at our booth entrance!

So we picked up our lightweight 3D glasses at the entrance of the booth and in we went. By the way, picking up 3D glasses at the entrance of an LG booth has become a hallmark for all our LG events. There was even a choice: regular glasses, or clip-ons.

And from the moment we put those glasses on, well, it was a brave new world of 3D that opened before our eyes. From the LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs to the 3D X-Note Notebook Computers, 3D Games, and even to the 3D sound home theater systems, it was a 3D experience that only LG could offer.

There was so much fun to be had at the LG booth for everyone!

While manufacturers at other booths were busy touting their advanced technologies, LG gracefully took its tech leadership in 3D and presented an unforgettable experience for visitors. From infants to adults, locals to foreigners, everyone at the booth had a real blast experiencing LG’s 3D world. After all, although people are well aware that LG is a leader in 3D, and one of the few leading manufacturers of consumer electronics in general, what good would all that leadership in technology be if the people using it couldn’t have a great time enjoying it?

We tried to bring back the excitement of the event through this post. But our words may not be enough to captivate all the fun and energy. That’s why this time around we tried something a little different. We took one of LG’s Optimus 3D, a glasses-free 3D Smartphone, and brought back 3D pictures from the event. Download 3D pictures from KES 2011 here. You will need a 3D device (ie. Monitor or TV) to view the pictures in 3D.

We also put together this short clip of the event. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!

When two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival 10 years ago, he was determined to have festival goers experience a unique celebration of the power and possibilities of film. This year’s event, which wrapped on May 1, was another successful celebration of that spirit, with a shower of quirky, challenging, and independent-minded productions from around the world.

Some 5,600 films and documentaries from more than 40 countries were on show at the New York event. Star turns included Cameron Crowe with “The Union,” his first film in six years, and Will Ferrell, who lent his comedic talents to the low-budget comedy “Everything Must Go.”

Venues for the 10th Tribeca Film Festival, which ran from April 30 to May 1 in theaters across Manhattan, New York. (Photo courtesy of the Tribeca Film Festival)

Just as exciting, however, was the vast selection of films from lesser-known talents, including productions fromSouth Africa,Norwayand across the United States that tackled everything from avant-garde poets to children with photographic memories.

Eager to help foster the adventurous talents of tomorrow, LG provided students from the Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, in Chicago, with equipment and technical support to help them produce a series of shorts with the company’s latest 3D technology, CINEMA 3D. The films also debuted at this year’s festival, on a series of CINEMA 3D TVs and Blu-ray™ players in venues throughout lower Manhattan.

Beth Janson, Executive Director of Tribeca Film Institute, speaks at an April 28 screening of the short films students made using LG’s Cinema 3D.

“Our students and faculty are so happy to have had this opportunity to use the latest in digital film and 3D technology,” said Audrey Welling, a senior producer at the academy. “It certainly gave them an edge as they leave the classroom and start their careers.”

“As a student it’s important to be able to learn how to shoot 3D, how to edit 3D, how to master 3D, because it’s the way of the future,” said Stephen Fletcher, a student at the academy.

Of note among the submitted films, “The Flying Wallendas Highwire Family,” turned heads by successfully capturing the tension of live high wire performances in the 3D format. Viewers also enjoyed an animated short, “The Universe of 3D,” which showed how LG’s 2D logo could be transformed into a compelling visual experience.

Tribeca Flashpoint Academy students film scenes from “The Flying Wallendas Highwire Family,” one of the 3D shorts shown at the Tribeca Festival. (Photos courtesy of the Tribeca Flashpoint blog)

By providing students with the skills they need to create 3D films of their own, the joint project with Tribeca is also aiming to push creation of the kind of inventive, daring content that can make 3D such a thrilling medium for home entertainment.

“We hope that our alliance with Tribeca and the Tribeca Flashpoint Academy will inspire more young filmmakers to create 3D content for consumers to enjoy,” said John Weinstock, Vice President of Marketing for LG. “The 3D films created by these students already capture the exciting possibilities of the 3D experience.”

At the ripe old age of 10, the Tribeca Festival has matured into one of the leading outlets for creative, left field filmmaking in the United States. As 3D moves from the creative fringes to the mainstream, it’s thrilling to know that some of the cream of the country’s cinematic talent will be fulfilling De Niro’s vision, and discovering just how powerful 3D can be.

Article by Jin Choi (Manager, LCD TV EU Marketing Group

On April 21, LG held one of the most ambitious events in its history as it launched its new CINEMA 3D TVs inEurope. In the beautiful Grand Palais in Paris, LG invited 1,500 stars, media, retailers and customers to what would be the biggest ever screening of a 3D movie on the biggest ever 3D screen – facts now acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

Paris, known for beautiful scenery and rich history, is one of the most visited cities in the world. Once the center of a sprawling empire,France’s capital now stands as a cultural marvel and a showcase of human endeavor.

An LG CINEMA 3D flag flutters in the Paris wind, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Then, there is the Grand Palais, a magnificent structure built in 1900 for the World’s Fair. Used to stage everything from grand exhibitions to horse-riding contests, it is better known as a symbol of innovation and modernity.

Our France marketing team thought that such a symbolic place – which has inspired the public with art and technology for over 100 years – would be the perfect venue to launch our CINEMA 3D. And they were absolutely right!

Buses emblazoned with CINEMA 3D logos pull up by the Grand Palais.

Byun Kyung-hoon, LG’s Executive Vice President and Head of Overseas Sales and Marketing, describes the technological wizardry behind CINEMA 3D and Smart TV.

With the venue secured, visualizing the event was exciting – overwhelming, even. With some big decisions and the full support of our top brass, we collaborated with six teams from LG HQ and theFranceoffice to plan the most ambitious event I’ve been part of in more than 10 years of marketing.

The challenges were many and daunting. Due to government regulations, booking the Grand Palais would ordinarily have to be done more than a year in advance – we had two months. In that time, we had to pull out all the stops to persuade the authorities to let us use the Grand Palais, while we simultaneously planned an event that would normally take at least six months to pull off.

Most galling of all, though, was ensuring the event befitted the stature of the venue. We originally pitched the event as the biggest ever 3D movie screening for the public – but we knew that even this wouldn’t be enough. The authorities in charge of Grand Palais are very strict about its events not being too “commercial,” so we had to come up with something really creative, but which also clearly communicated what makes CINEMA 3D so special.

Our solution was to turn the Grand Palais into a “total 3D playground.” As visitors wandered around with their CINEMA 3D glasses, they would pass an entire side of the Grand Palais set up as an “experience zone,” where they could see for themselves the difference between CINEMA 3D TVs and competing 3D sets. Nearby would be a section of 3D video games, 3D projectors and 3D computer monitors, while the halls inside were lined with the latest CINEMA 3D TVs broadcasting the entire event live in 3D.

At the “experience zone” at the Paris launch event, visitors had a chance to see for themselves the difference between CINEMA 3D and older technologies.

The other side of the Palais was transformed into a breathtaking 3D movie theater, with space for 1,500 viewers. LG in fact set two world records that night: the biggest ever 3D movie screening, and the largest 3D projection screen (27 meters by 11 meters).

In keeping with the theatrical atmosphere, we hired Isabelle Giordano, a prominent move critic, to host the show, and invited along actor Sophie Marceau, director Claude Lelouch, and a host of other top French celebrities. There were turns from French magician Dani Lary and Brazilian dance troupe Brasilian Ambience. And, of course, we screened the 3D animation blockbusterRIO, which had opened just a few weeks prior to the event.

A record 1,500 people marvel at a screening of animated blockbuster RIO, shown on the world’s biggest ever 3D screen.

Managing the entire event, which also included a daytime show for press and sales staff, was a formidable undertaking. Adding to the fun were the cultural differences between our teams fromKoreaand the French staff on the ground. In one nail-biting example, we encountered difficulties when testing the 3D videos before the main event.

With just two hours remaining in which to fix it, the technical staff went for lunch for a little over an hour. But when they came back, with 30 minutes to spare, they promptly fixed the equipment right up, and it worked perfectly. Among many other things, we learned that the French style of doing things – though very different from ours inKorea! – can work wonders.

Sophie Marceau, a very special guest at the event, poses for the cameras.

Along with top brass from LG, French superstar Sophie Marceau checks out LG’s CINEMA 3D for herself.

There are millions of companies in this world, starting from small boutiques all the way up to globe-spanning corporations like LG. And while some find a niche and succeed by staying there, others are out in front, leading the pack on the strength of their capacity for innovation.

When it comes to consumer technology, LG is always striving towards something new and better by introducing new products and services that aim to revolutionize the way we enjoy our consumer electronics and, in the end, how we live.

Thomson Reuters agrees. Recognizing our innovative achievements, Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted and respected information providers, put LG among the prestigious ranks of its 2011 Top 100 Global Innovators.

The Thomson Reuters Top Global Innovators program evaluates performance in 3 areas: companies that invent on a significant scale, work on developments that are acknowledged as innovative by others around the world, and whose inventions are globally protected due to their importance.

We’re proud of the standout innovations LG has introduced to the TV and home entertainment industry this year.

Earlier this year, LG changed the 3D TV landscape forever with its Film Patterned Retarder-type (FPR) 3D technology. It was an emphatic statement, that 3D TVs do not have to be expensive and that viewing can be comfortable. Previous active versions caused headaches and dizziness, and lacked adequate 3D content. With FPR technology, the glasses became light and affordable, and the flickering images were vanquished.

Thomson Reuters wasn’t the only outfit to take notice. Respected media like the tech blog Gizmodo and PC Magazine also reviewed our products, putting our 3D tech on the top of their lists.

FPR-type 3D technology also makes possible a full ecosystem of products that work together seamlessly to make 3D content creation accessible and enjoyable for the whole family. The ecosystem includes TVs, notebook computers, monitors, mobile devices (phones and tablets), and 3D projectors. Working in concert, these products let consumers create, share, and enjoy the same great 3D content on any 3D device with the same pair of glasses.

You could say that innovation is part of our DNA, and we wouldn’t disagree.
