Soon Kwon, MD LG Electronics India, said the new design features many upgrades on the 3D Cinema TVs launched earlier. The company hopes to consolidate its space in the segment, and is eyeing a 30 per cent share of the Rs 1,000-crore market in India.

Kwon believes the London Olympics, which will be telecast in 3D as well, will be a big push for the third dimension in television. Moreover, the trend of launching movies in 3D is expected to spillover to Bollywood this year.

The new televisions will feature cutting edge features like Dual Play, which allows two gamers to get their own 3D perspective of the game. LG is also introducing 3D sound zooming, which adds another dimension to the audio while watching 3D movies. Plus, the new magic motion remote control on the units will pointing, gesture and wheel controls.

Then, in an industry first, LG has reduced the thickness of the bezel to just 1mm, giving its new screens an edge-to-edge feel. The design, which was a show-stopper at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, will be featured in the new TVs.

Viewers will also be able to control 3D depth as well as cover 2D content with the new TVs. LG’s new app hub will also have 3D content which can downloaded to the TV.

The new series of 23 TVs will be available in stores from this month with prices starting at Rs 55,000 for the 32-inch Cinema 3D smart TV. The 72-inch TV, the largest in the market at present, will cost Rs 7 lakh.

For a civilization brought up on the concept of maya, it has taken the Koreans to prove it literally that life indeed is an illusion. Yesterday I was witness to the launch of the world’s largest 3D Cinema Smart TV by LG Electronics in India.  72 inches of screen and when the bat hit the ball, it literally came out of the screen. I moved forward and did try to catch the ball. Alas it was an illusion of 3D technology. Yet, one of the best ever. 3D has finally arrived in sense and sensibility that thrills the viewer. The concept of distance, space, depth and the way we view things is about to change.

3D Cinema Smart TV coming of age: The Picture gets out of the Screen
3D has been in the television market for sometime now but the experience has never really been thrilling. Yes, there was a certain depth to the pictures but perhaps that was all there was. LG 3D Cinema Smart TV redefines 3D viewing in many ways, perhaps the most important one is that the picture is no longer confined to the screen. It reaches out to you. Water splashes at you, so much so that your first conditioned reaction is to wipe your face. The hero’s punch comes right into you, the conditioned reactive mind for a second looks for protection and when the bat hits the ball, it actually makes you move a step ahead to catch it. The real power of this TV is in viewing content made in 3D. The punch comes right at you. The 3D sound zooming adds an extra dimension to sound. The voice echoes, comes from an unknown dimension, as if this was all there was.

The Smart TV in this is great. The remote is gesture based and simple. The high points are pointing, gesture & wheeling within the remote.  Another good feature is the Intel’s WiDi inbuilt in the TV which allows wireless display of HDMI content. Then there are the standard features which are in most Smart TV’s web browser, panels, home dashboard and WiFi.

Pricing
The pricing starts from Rs.40,000 and goes up to Rs.7 lakhs. 72 inches is magnificently huge for a TV screen especially of this type. The price tag is even more magnificent at over Rs.7 lacs for this 72 inches screen. Having said that, instead of spending lesser amount on building a projection system this might be a better buy.

One thing is for sure LG Cinema 3D Smart TV maybe well be the defining point in the way we view 3D content at home.

OUT OF THE BOX

The TV had a scintillating effect when we placed it in our studio. Its been almost half a decade since LG’s proactive participation in the flat panel market here in the country, and it is for the first time that we’ve seen so much flamboyance in any of their flat panels. There have been the Scarlets and the Jazzs that had rare spurts of flashiness, but the new 55LM8600 bears a strong fashion statement that we haven’t seen with any LG TV. Two things that caught our attention were the panel stand and the seamless bezel-less frame. The metal ribbon stand is very contemporary in approach, making the TV look as if it is suspended in mid-air. Now we have reviewed monitors with killer looks but getting a 55-incher to appear like this is a Herculean task that LG has managed to pull off quite well. Also, we have seen frameless TVs, but the seamless no-bezel design came as a pleasant surprise to us. We couldn’t wait to experience the picture on the screen.

TECHNOLOGY

We asked LG what’s special about this new range of TVs, and they answered with a big 3D logo. Well, we were not surprised with that. After all, their FPR 3D technology has managed to bag the recognition  of the best 3D technology in the consumer segment. And this is where we would like to re instate the ‘Better Getting Best’ concept. For starters, they have come up with a few amendments in2D to 3D conversion, promising better experience devoid of any aberrations and anomalies in terms of edge enhancement. There is this new ‘Dual Play’ mode that will beef great interest to the avid gamers. This feature will come in handy if you enjoy competitive gaming. It takes inspiration from the ‘split screen’ mode seen in many games, where two gamers can see their corresponding view-points on the same screen. The problem with this type of multi-player mode is that due to the split screen, both the gamers get only half of the total screen size as their gaming area. But with LG’s Dual Play mode, every gamer gets the entire screen for his own viewpoint. Fun, isn’t it? Furthermore, they have increased the control that one get son the 3D picture, for instance, the depth of the 3D images, image shifted. This feature will be extremely useful when you are converting2D to 3D and for tweaking the converted 3D picture to your liking. So much for the 3D world, but that’s not the end of what the new LG TV has to offer. The TV also excels interims of connectivity with ample options for I/O and an elaborate USB support as well. An interesting feature is the onboard Wi-fi connectivity. Yes, we do know that there are thousands of TVs with onboard Wi-fi, but LG has gone a step ahead to exploit this feature and not just use it for browsing the internet. With onboard Wi-fi, they have the SmartShare feature to connect your PC, mobile phone or tablet PCs directly to the TV and share content off-the-fly. For example, on PCs you just have to create a shared folder using the installation CD that comes with the TV and start sharing any files that you wish to see or hear on TV to the folder by just copying it to the folder. They have also packed in support for office files and PDFs as well. All the other features from last year’s Cinema 3D TVs from LG are retained in the 55LM8600 such as exhaustive control on the picture quality with a highly intuitive and suggestive user interface.

REMOTE CONTROL

Just like the earlier versions of the Cinema3D TV, the LM8600also comes with an option of two remotes. First is the regular remote almost filled to the brim with all sorts of colorful buttons. Though densely populated, the remote is very easy to get along with and also comes in handy with the elaborate GUI of the TV. The second option is of the motion sensor remote (similar to the Microsoft Kinect for Xbox or the PlayStation Move forPlayStaion3). This houses only a handful of buttons, namely for 3D, apps, volume and power. But here LG has given a track pad and jog dial on the remote. If not for these two features on the remote, you would be struggling to get accustomed to the functioning and the movement of the remote on the screen.

There is not much done in the2D video section, and we did not expect a great deal of difference in the already flawless picture quality of the Cinema3D TVs from LG. The frameless design does provide you with an experience similar to that of a projector only that you can see the boundaries. Nonetheless, the experience is much better than watching your movies on a TV with a 1” thick frame. As we sampled highly demanding Blu-rays such as ‘Thor’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Captain America’, the LG TV presented us with possibly the best video playback that you can get on any flat panel television currently available. Since all the above-mentioned Blu-rays are action-heavy, they bear all the pre-requisites (colour saturation, black levels, sharpness and motion) to test a flat panel for its optimum performance. And the 55LM8600was all game with its crisp sharpness, deep black levels, utmost colour saturation and swift handing of motion. And you also have the ISF presets that make life easy by calibrating the TV off-the-fly according to the ISF standards. We did find a slight trace of light leakage off the LED lined up on the edge of the TV. This was particularly seen in very dark scenes like the climax of ‘The Dark Knight’ affecting the detail in the black levels. This can be resolved to an extent by using a tweak for the black levels and choosing between two points—low (gets the black levels really deep) and high (reduces a contrast by a couple of notches by putting up a slight white cast on the screen).The next task was to check for the 3D picture quality, and unlike last year, this time we had almost two dozen 3D Blu-ray discs lying in the studio. And once again FPR3D technology proved it’s worth as the most suitable and convenient3D technology available in the market. Be it games, animation or even motion pictures, the playback for 3D was simply the best that we have seen. The TV not only tackles regular issues of 3D picture playback like low brightness, dizziness or headache caused by the glasses (more prevalent inactive shutter glasses) or even viewing angle, but manages to put up highly effective 3D performance.

The vb  frameless design also played big role here in order to reduce the effect of constrained vision by providing a more immersive and engaging experience. The only drawback was that of the vertical viewing angle (also seen in earlier versions of the FPR 3D TVs from LG). So, if you wish to mount the55LM8600 on the wall, take care that you don’t mount the TV in such a way that the vertical viewing angle comes to more than 50 to 60degrees. If it is more than this range, you won’t be able to enjoy the 3Dexperience to the fullest as it affects picture sharpness and you easily see two different images forming the3D images. The 2D to 3D conversion is convincing but we did notice slight discrepancies in scenes with fast motion sequences. In ‘Thor’, every time the Bifrost started to revolve around itself or even in ‘Green Lantern’ when Hal Jordon (played by Ryan Reynolds) made his super-fast trips to some other planets, the TV seemed to lose its hold on the 3D rendition as it lost the sync for a couple of seconds. But this took place only for a few seconds as once the picture comes back to normal pace, the TV was once again in all its 3D glory. The Dual Play is an interesting feature and LG has incorporated some innovative reverse engineering. Picking up on how 3D technology works, they have devised a way where two different gamers can simultaneously look at two different images on the same screen. As it turns out, you need special Dual Play glasses for this. And the best part is that for the 55LM8600, a pair of Dual Play glasses is included in the package along with four normal FPR 3Dglasses. For some other models, you can avail the glasses at an extra cost. But considering the low cost of FPR 3D glasses, we think that this investment is absolutely worth it for the kind of results that it gives. Speaking about the SmartShare feature, a peculiar problem with such features is the setup procedure which gets painstaking and tedious, but in 55LM8600 LG has provided a simple step-by-step guide to the users on how to hook up their phones and PCs with the TV. It does not take more than a couple of minutes to complete the entire procedure and your TV becomes an entertainment hub. Once connected, you can also use the TV as a second screen without any wire using the SmartShare feature. The only care that you have to take is to have both the devices connected to the same Wi-fi network. Now that’s a little more than smart!

How Dual Play Works?

While viewing a 3D film with FPR 3D glasses, users are already receiving two different images that are simultaneously being displayed on a television or movie screen. Each of these two images are polarized using a special filter, and this filter orients each image’s light waves in a specific direction. All this takes place on the screen itself. As for the glasses, the two lenses allow light waves to enter only if they’re oriented in the same direction as each lens’ polarised filter. For example, waves in plane X for the left eyeball and waves in plane Y for the right eyeball. When the brain processes the two different images coming in at the same time, the viewers perceive depth that isn’t actually there, and that’s 3D for us. LG’s Dual Play technology uses this same feature but with a twist. In the Dual Playglasses they have popped out the lenses on two polarised glasses and exchanged them to create matched pairs. One Dual Play glass contains the same lenses for both the eyeballs. So when a gamer wears them, he loses the ability to create a three-dimensional image, as it would have otherwise done. Instead both the eyeballs will now receive light waves that have been oriented in a single direction. In other words, a person gets picture A and cannot see picture B, while the vice-versa takes place with their competitor in the game.

LG is also introducing 3D sound zooming, which adds another dimension to the audio while watching 3D movies. Plus, the new magic motion remote control on the units will pointing, gesture and wheel controls.

Then, in an industry first, LG has reduced the thickness of the bezel to just 1mm, giving its new screens an edge-to-edge feel. The design, which was a show-stopper at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, will be featured in the new TVs.

Viewers will also be able to control 3D depth as well as cover 2D content with the new TVs. LG’s new app hub will also have 3D content which can downloaded to the TV.

The new series of 23 TVs will be available in stores from this month with prices starting at Rs 55,000 for the 32-inch Cinema 3D smart TV. The 72-inch TV, the largest in the market at present, will cost Rs 7 lakh.

So we were pretty hyped up when we saw online, that PCWorld picked LG for 2 of the top 5 spots on a list of their favorite HDTVs for 3D viewing. In fact, ours came in #1 and #3.

Topping the list was a 47-inch CINEMA 3D Smart TV (47LW6500) recognized for its great image and outstanding audio quality at a very affordable price. According to PCWorld, it’s a “very good deal for a 47-inch 1080p set with state-of-the-art capabilities.” It received high marks for color reproduction, especially the skin tones. PCWorld also liked the detail and overall sharpness of the images.

The easy-to-use picture wizard, which lets users adjust the image quality (color, tint, sharpness, etc.), with a great collection of presets, also got a mention. Very much worthy of that famous Best Buy emblem!

The other TV to catch their eye was a 50-inch 1080p Plasma TV (50PZ950). PCWorld liked its beautiful picture quality, wide range of Internet options and excellent 3D quality. It also sports an exceptionally thin black bezel, giving it what we call a “bezel-less” look. As PCWorld points outs, when the TV is turned off, it looks like it has no bezel at all. That makes it remarkable in any living room. The magazine recommended it for people seeking a good-looking TV with smart capabilities.

1.   Lotte World Ice Rink in Seoul, Korea

Korea is well known for its games and world champion gamers. So when LG took an entire ice rink as the venue for the CINEMA 3D Game Festival, literally tens of thousands of gamers and non-gamers alike flocked to the 2-day event. The venue turned into a stage with massive 3D screen and it was packed with the latest LG CINEMA 3D TVs, LG 3D Monitors, 3D X-NOTE notebook computers, Optimus 3D smartphones, LG CINEMA 3D Projectors and more. The full line-ups of LG’s 3D gadgets were used to enjoy all different kinds of games such as Blizzard’s renowned StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, X-Box 360 Kinect console games, and wildly popular Korean online RPG game Lineage II.

2.   Gamescom 2011 in Cologne, Germany

Gamescom is the world’s largest trade fair and event for games and entertainment in Germany. It’s held every year and, this year, LG brought its CINEMA 3D Game Festival there. Over 10,000 visitors took time to drop by the LG booth at the event to experience amazing 3D gaming on LG’s 3D devices and to get a taste of LG’s CINEMA 3D total solution.

3.   Mega Khimki in Moscow, Russia

In Russia, the event was held in Mega Khimki, one of the largest shopping malls in Moscow. A 370-inch 3D screen broadcasted living gaming footages of several local celebrity gamers, and other performances were also shown in 3D on the big screen for everyone to enjoy. Over 70,000 people crowded the venue to experience the world of 3D gaming presented by LG.

4.   Dubai in the Middle East

The LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival in Dubai is not a one-time event like others. This one’s a little special. And the reason we say “is” is because it’s still on going right now! LG has set up 3D gaming equipment (CINEMA 3D TVs, CINEMA 3D Projectors, and more) at what’s called Living Rooms Video Games Cafes and is holding 3D game tournaments there until the end of this year. Contests are held on a weekly and monthly basis to seek the best of the best and the winners will face each other in a Mega Championship finale next year. Small and big prizes from T-shirts to CINEMA 3D TVs have been given out to winners.

 5.   BlizzCon in Anaheim, USA

Most recently, LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival made its way into BlizzCon, hosted by Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of Warcraft, Diablo and of course, the StarCraft Series. The event was held in Anaheim, California. LG showed off its full line-ups of 3D products. Gamers from all over the world at the event could experience the cutting edge 3D technology through all the different products.

The 3D Game Festival Continues to Conquer the World of 3D Gaming

LG has set out to dominate the world of 3D gaming with the Global LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival. From participation in major gaming events to holding various game events all over world, it has gamers jumping out of their seats. Aside from the ones that we’ve mentioned above, the Game Festival has also been held in Canada, China, and Brazil among others. And it will be held in many other countries by the end of the year. So keep an eye out wherever you are. If you’re lucky the LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival may be coming to your country!

In early May, they gave the LG CINEMA 3D 47LW5600 exceptionally high marks in one of their reviews. And just a week later, one of the magazine’s highly regarded tech writers, Will Greenwald, talked about how the industry is finally getting turned on to what he calls ‘Passive 3D.’ What it all comes down to, according to PC Magazine, is that the technology LG is using is the way the industry should go, and the 47LW5600 delivers on the promise of high quality 3D TV affordably and in style.

You’re probably wondering what ‘Passive 3D’ is, right? In tech-speak, it’s known as Film-type Patterned Retarder, or FPR. In a nutshell, it’s the key difference between the two main types of 3D TVs on the market today. Conventional 3D TVs use something called Active Shutter Glasses, which are heavy and expensive. To watch conventional 3D TVs properly, you have to stay in the line of sight of the HDTV’s infrared emitter. Worse, the glasses are large and bulky, making them uncomfortable to wear, and the constant flickering can cause serious eye fatigue.

LG gets around those problems with FPR technology in its LG CINEMA 3D 47LW5600, which PC Magazine awarded a 4.5-star rating and named an Editors’ Choice. The magazine was definitely enthused about the much cheaper price of the LG CINEMA 3D TV. But that wasn’t the only reason for recommending it. It also praised the outstanding picture quality, in both 2D and 3D, while talking up the 47LW5600’s many great features.

So how about that 3D quality? To test it, the magazine compared watching the 3D movie Avatar on the 47LW5600 with a conventional 3D TV. As writer John R. Delaney puts it, “I was blown away by the panel’s depth and clarity. The entire picture was crisp and image detail was exquisite throughout. The picture remained bright and color quality was spot on.”

He also gave the 47LW5600 high marks for its design and functionality, pointing out the sleekness of the elegant black bezel, the easy side-accessibility to key ports (4HDMI, 2USB), and the unique Magic Motion remote, which operates almost like a mouse together with the 47LW5600’s incredibly intuitive UI. “I couldn’t put it down once I started using it and would love to see this technology make its way into all TV remotes.”

And don’t forget power consumption. The review referred to the 47LW5600 as a “power miser,” pointing out that the unit consumes just 95 watts on Cinema mode even with the power saving feature turned off. Delaney gave it his “GreenTech stamp of approval” for costing less than $2/month to operate.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to those 3D glasses. As PC Magazine points out, “passive is where it’s at.” Active Shutter types are big, inconvenient, and very expensive, Delany argues, with an average pair costing more than $100. LG ships 4 pairs for free with its CINEMA 3D 47LW5600, they’re comfortable, and you can view the TV from any angle in the room without any eye fatigue.

Some people ask us how we got our start. The magazine gave it a 5-star rating. Furthermore, American IT magazine PC World claimed that LG’s FPR 3D TVs have superior 3D effects when compared to conventional 3D TVs, while CNET’s Asia edition also gave LG CINEMA 3D TV 4 stars on the 15th and selected it as an Editor’s Choice!

Recently a leading global research company by the name of Millward Brown picked our CINEMA 3D TV ads as the best-liked ad from July 2010 to June 2011 in South Africa. And we couldn’t have been happier.

The “LG 3D TV: More Fun” ad was developed as part of LG’s global ad campaign for our FPR-type CINMEA 3D TVs, delivering the message that LG CINEMA 3D TVs, using LG’s outstanding FPR technology, could make 3D TVs much more enjoyable.

The “More Fun” ad campaign is an ad based on a humorous lab test, showing the superior brightness of LG CINEMA 3D TVs compared to conventional 3D TVs.

Hong Kong: A Leon Lai Love Affair with LG CINEMA 3D TV

The 3D music video was a first, and it was the result of a great collaboration between LG Electronics and one of Hong Kong’s most innovative and successful record labels, aMusic, who worked for 9 months to combine the faces together with slick animations of the bodies. The innovative video caught a lot of attention, so much so that Leon Lai is now one of our biggest fans.

Russia: A Passport to the Third Dimension
Watching 3D TV can feel like being transported to another world. In Russia, that “other world” happened to be a very exclusive launch party that required a special passport for entry, which we dutifully supplied to all our guests. It was just like crossing the border, with “immigration” officials waiting to stamp the passports.

The Transamerica Expo Center played host for our party and we were honored and privileged to have as a guest none other than the former president of the country, Lula da Silva. He is still very popular and, as we saw first-hand, still so very passionate. It was the first time for him to take part in a corporate event since stepping down last year so it was very meaningful to have him there with us.

United States: Diving into March Madness
Brazil isn’t the only place full of passion. In the United States, few annual events generate more passion than college basketball’s March Madness. It’s one of the top sporting events all year, attracting roughly 40 million viewers and participants from across the country. This past year, the championship match was held at Houston’s Reliant Stadium. Nearby, at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the NCAA also put on its highly regarded fan festival. This “Tip-off Tailgate” event was held at the booth, inviting customers to pick their favorite 3D technology, with 3 of 4 participants selecting CINEMA 3D’s FPR 3D technology over conventional 3D technology. A sweepstakes giving away CINEMA 3D TVs was also held for the participants. Over the course of 3 days, more than 2,300 people participated in the pre-game events.

Korea: A 3D Battle in the Stars
Korea is a virtual Mecca for gamers. What other country has its own professional computer gaming league? So it made perfect sense to do our launch event in our home market in concert with a game event. Hence the genesis of the LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival. For the first time ever in Korea, gamers could duke it out in 3D among the stars!

Ever been to an indoor event where hundreds of people are all staring at computer screens all decked out in 3D glasses? That was the atmosphere at LG CINEMA 3D Game Festival event. The entire venue was powered by LG 3D Notebooks and LG CINEMA 3D TVs and, with everyone playing in the Star Craft 3D Game League, like a real battlefield, with all the top players from the league going head-to-head.

 And it wasn’t just computer games. We also had singers perform in 3D at the event. They were on one stage but we captured them with a 3D camera and broadcast it around the venue in real time on LG CINEMA 3D TVs. Hundreds of fans took part and got to witness something very special.

LG CINEMA 3D TV launch events have been held around the world and these were just a few of the highlights. We’ve also been in Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and New Zealand. At each event, we’ve met so many wonderful people and everyone has been amazed and fascinated by the power of 3D technology.

Follow the quick steps below and in just a few quick points and clicks you’ll be well on the way to enjoying a much better experience with your TV.

1. Locate the Enter/Home button on your Magic Motion Remote Control. It’s right in the center of the device, so you should have no trouble finding it. Press it once and the device should turn on and a pointer will show on your TV screen. (An indicator at the top of your remote will light up as shown in the image below.)

2. Press the Enter/Home button again and you will be taken to the Home menu screen, where you can access your TV settings and Smart TV functions. Then, move your pointer over to the quick menu icon as shown on the image (left) and hit Enter/Home again.

3. Here you will be given an on-screen button named POINTER. Just move your pointer over it and click enter again.

That’s it.

Now you can access all the different menus for changing your settings for the Magic Motion Remote Control.

Speed: Adjust the speed of your pointer, making it faster or slower.

Shape: If you don’t like the default shape, you can change it here.

Size: If you’re having trouble seeing the pointer, or if you think it’s too big, you can adjust it here.

Alignment: If this option is turned on, it will help you locate the pointer on your screen when you can find it. Simply shake your Magic Motion Remote Control left to right, and the pointer will automatically relocate itself to the center of the screen! Cool.

Depending on the CINEMA 3D Smart TV model that you have, the language and the process may be slightly different but all CINEMA 3D Smart TVs have the same basic options. It’s really very easy. Just hit the Enter/Home button on you remote and locate your settings. Everything else is straightforward!

Step one is to download and install it from either your Android or iOS app store. Just search for “LG Remote App”. It’s free.

Step two, you need to pair the app with your LG TV. As long as your smart phone and smart TV are connected to your home Wi-Fi network, this is a snap. After you launch the LG TV Remote App, it will automatically scan for your TV. Once it finds it, just tap “connect” and watch the TV for a code to appear. Plug that in, and you’re good to go.

 Step three, Enjoy! Here are some of the features you’ll find on the menu.

1. Volume, Channel, and “My CH”

The volume and channel changers are self-explanatory. Just use one of the two sets of rockers that appear on your phone, and swipe up and down to adjust. What’s really cool is the “My CH” feature, which lets you create a list of your favorite channels that you can surf back and forth between. Whenever you’re on a channel you like, just tap My CH and add it to your favorites. Once it’s saved, you can always go back with just a few simple touches of the finger.

2. Touch Pad

Use the simple touch pad to access key functions like launching your apps.

This menu works like a normal touch pad on a notebook computer. Just put your finger on the smartphone screen and the Magic Motion pointer will appear on your TV. Now, we’re not saying that it’ll replace your Magic Motion Remote Control, but it definitely gets the job done in a very admirable way.

3. Buttons

Even if you don’t really get into the functionality of our Magic Motion Remote Control, you can go old school with this feature, which replicates all your key navigation functions of the standard LG remote that comes with the TV.

4. Settings.

Use these to customize the app, change your vibration effects, sound effects, and even your touchpad sensitivity.

5. The QWERTY Keyboard

This is probably our favorite feature on the app, because it’s perfect for surfing the web and doing searches from your couch. And it’s super intelligent. Whenever you are surfing or using Smart TV menus that require keyboard input, the LG Remote App realizes it and launches a keyboard on your smartphone. All from within the app! A smart way that makes your Smart TV even smarter.

There are important technological differences that don’t often get talked about when you go to the store. If you know about those, you’ll be able to make a better purchase and know precisely why you have to have a TV with an IPS-type panel.

When it comes to LCD TVs, there are really only two types to talk about, Vertical Alignment (VA) panels and In Plane Switching (IPS). As you can guess the main difference is how liquid crystals are aligned: Unlike VA types, IPS are horizontally laid out.

VA panels have some great strong points. For example, they can be very good at blocking light and creating deep blacks and contrasts. But what really sets the two types apart is the pixel structure.

VA panels use something called a non-homogenous electric field and two transistors per pixel. In comparison, IPS panels have a homogenous electric field and the ability to drive liquid crystals simply and efficiently. The result is a much faster response time with a very wide viewing angle that provides crisp and bright images without any color distortion.

What this also means is that IPS-based LCD TVs offer more vivid pictures without any motion blur because the signals can travel more quickly through the homogenous electric field.

Another unique aspect of IPS is that when the surface is pressed or tapped, the picture remains stable, without flashing or leaving residual images. It’s something you can easily see for yourself at one of our LG brand shops.

This characteristic is great if you have young kids who often feel the urge to get up close and personal with the TV screen. They can touch the screen all they like and there will be no light flash or residual deterioration of the screen.

It’s also an excellent choice if you use it in an office and make a lot of presentations because it lets you feel confident about touching the screen directly as opposed to having to keep your hand or pen hovering over it.

With VA screens, if you touch it, you’ll see water waves and eventual color degradation of the panel. IPS screens are comparatively much sturdier, which also makes them perfect for touch screens. And that’s one of the key reasons why Apple chose IPS for its iPhone.

On top of all that, the colors are also exceptionally consistent even when you view from a wide angle. Another factor that you can chalk up to the simplicity of the structure and that homogenous electric field is the fact that IPS is more energy efficient. VA panels, as mentioned above, use more than one transistor per pixel, which requires more power.

The superiority of IPS is also well recognized by many professional experts, such as graphic designers and surgeons, people for whom exactness and quality really do matter.

So when you go to buy your next TV, make sure you ask about the panel, and don’t be afraid to knock on it and see what happens. Is it an IPS or VA? The winner is clear.

The 3 dimensional effect is created by two separate images that need to be put together. The glasses help us do that. If you’ve ever been to a 3D movie, it’s basically the same at home.

The price difference has to do with the fact that different manufacturers use different technology. The two main ones are active shutter-type glasses and the Film Patterned Retarder-type (FPR) glasses. Active shutter-types require batteries to receive images from the TV, and the left and right lenses have to turn on and off at a very high rate. These can cost as much as $200.

LG CINEMA 3D glasses are FPR and are so much lighter than conventional active shutter type glasses!

FPR-type glasses are what you get in the movie theater, expect a lot cooler. They are thinner, lighter, don’t need to charged, and they feel great to wear. They have a much wider viewing angle and are remarkably affordable. Read more on the comparison between active and FPR-type 3D glasses here.

2. Isn’t 3D harmful for my eyes, and doesn’t it cause headaches?

Some users complain about nausea, dizziness and eye fatigue when watching 3D. Much of this phenomenon is closely related to the “crosstalk” and “flicker,” two phenomena associated with active shutter glasses. It has to do with the rapid pattern shift from side to side and between black and the main image. Watching 3D over an extended period on active shutters can get stressful for the eyes, causing the symptoms mentioned above.

FPR type glasses don’t show flickering or cross talk. They’re easy on the eyes and can be viewed for a long time without affecting your vision. As a matter of fact, LEXUM eye clinic, a well known institution in Europehas proven by testing LG CINEMA 3D TVs, that FPR-type 3D TVs are harmless to our eyes. Read more on it here.

3. Is there really a lot of 3D content to watch?

In a word, Yes. Many consumers ask about this. After all, there’s no point of buying a new type of TV if there isn’t much to watch right?

There’s just so much great, cutting-edge technology packed into the TVs and we want to talk about it all! And some of it does get kind of techie, so it’s hard to break it down in an easy way. Also, some features have become so common that we don’t really talk about them anymore. Full HD is a great example, and an important one, because these days 3D is becoming more and more popular.

In fact, some of our competitors have criticized LG CINEMA 3D TVs, raising questions about whether LG CINEMA 3D TVs are HD or not. Well, let’s find out what being Full HD really means and you’ll see why people are lining up on our side in this debate.

First, Full HD is actually pretty simple. HDTV, or High Definition Television, is generally defined as having 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. Full HD TVs are able to accept high definition signals and show them on the screen with those same 1080 lines.

And if the question is, are LG 3D TVs also HD, the answer could not be clearer. Here’s how it works: In 3D mode, the TV produces two stereo images, each of which has 540 lines. Using LG’s FPR, or Film Patterned Retarder technology, those two images are harmonized by our 3D glasses, giving viewers a single 1080 image with a lot of depth. And that’s it in a nutshell, Full HD 3D TV.

And remember, you don’t have to just take our word for it. Recently, the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (also known as VDE, from the original German), certified our 47LW570S model as Full HD. The VDE is one of the largest, most respected associations inEurope and it’s a privilege to have their recognition. We’ve come a long way since the days of standard definition, with its average resolution of about 500 lines!

By the way, LG CINEMA 3D TVs have also been certified as flicker-free by Intertek and TÜV. What does that mean? Well, unlike conventional 3D technologies that use expensive shutter-type glasses that often leave viewers with feelings of vertigo, viewers using an LG CINEMA 3D TV enjoy their 3D affordably and comfortably. No Flickering!

We think that’s a winning combination: Beautifully crisp, Full HD images seen in total comfort, and without spending a fortune.

Nothing really prepares you for all those ambient sounds floating around behind you—the people talking in the coffee shop just off the screen to the right or the sound of a motorcycle zooming by you on the screen to the left. First-timers often catch themselves physically turning to see if it really did just drive by.

We’ve gotten so used to the unidirectional sound coming from our TV sets over the years that we just don’t know what to expect when we hear it for the first time. Even some of the newest TV models boasting great sound can’t compete with a 5-speaker home theater system. Many of them pump out some pretty big wattage. But the depth of sound on a home theater system is something else again. It expands the field of sound and immerses you into it, as opposed to having it come straight at you from the front.

The difference starts with the fact that it’s a 9.1 speaker system. On the tallboy speakers you see above, LG placed four upright 3D speakers which pump sound upward. By filling the sound field above the listeners’ heads, it’s like installing four height channel speakers, as they’re known to industry professionals, on the upper wall. This is possible because the 360° reflector inside the upright 3D speakers disseminates sound evenly to the entire room, letting the sound shower down on the listeners.

Every day activities

Now, if you’re like us, you spend a lot of time in front of your computer. And many of us have been known to shop a bit, too. Imagine you buy a red shirt to match a pair of new jeans. You make your payment and wait eagerly for the shipment to arrive. And when it does, you tear it open only to find that… the red is actually kind of orange. How come you didn’t see that on your monitor!?

If the situation sounds familiar, then this disclaimer probably look very familiar: “Due to the large variation of monitors, video cards, operating systems, and internet browsers and the effects each has on each other, we cannot guarantee the fabric colors displayed.” Recognize it? Right, from one of those online shopping malls.

What a disappointment. Even with a state-of-the-art system featuring a killer video card, if your monitor is sub-par, you’re color experience will be, shall we say, lacking.

Watching movies and videos

What about movie buffs? Imagine yourself watching a movie in bed at night. It might be the best place ever to watch a film but for most regular displays you pretty much have to get the angle just right or else the colors bleed. This is mainly because many displays have inconsistent response times that leave residual images or show motion blur when displaying moving objects.

Alright, so you’ve gotten yourself a beautiful new LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV. You’re just minutes away from enjoying great 3D content. We understand your excitement. But before you dive right in and start powering things up, take a moment and know your ports. It’ll make your set-up easier and you’ll probably pick up a few tidbits on how to make the most of your TV. We say “probably” because our engineers have packed plenty of ideas in these units.

Let’s take a look at the ports.

That’s a lot of ports! Your CINEMA 3D Smart TV may not have an identical layout, but it will most likely have a similar configuration.

Now let’s get into what some of these ports can do for you.

HDMI Port

A good example is the HDMI Port and also a great place to start. Who besides gamers even knew what an HDMI was a few years ago? Well, thankfully today there are so many digital peripherals around us that can make use of HDMI ports. Besides your game console, think: digital SLRs, computers, notebooks, game consoles, camcorders, and even tablets. As the name suggests, it’s a FULL HD connection and the real beauty of it (besides those great HD videos) is that it also takes care of the sound.

RGB Port

Ok, we don’t all have HDMI ports on our PCs. But that’s not a problem. Whatever computer you do have, it will have what’s called an RGB connection. It’s been the standard for video/monitors for about 2 decades. So if you don’t have an HDMI port but still want to connect your PC, just unplug your monitor and plug that same cable into the TV. Click on the inputs and select “PC” and you’re good-to-go. Just keep in mind that you’ll need a separate audio connection for your sound.

USB Port

USB ports have become pretty common on our computers these days and you’ll find a bunch on your LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV as well. What many people aren’t aware of is that the TVs also come with software installed to read just about any kind of memory storage device that has a USB connector. Photos on your camera? Plug it in. A movie stored on your thumb drive? Just plug it in. The TV will do the rest, prompting you with a screen to choose the file. Just connect, click and view to your hearts content. You can even hook up an external hard drive.

Connecting your Home Theater System

Not all home theater systems were born equal but the basic ones have at least 2 channel speakers, which means you’ll definitely need the analog stereo audio ports, one for the Right and one for the Left. They are typically color-coded red and white. But most home theater system these days will be digital so just locate the digital optical ports on the back, match up the colors and enjoy!

Now, the reality is that you can’t see one in your neighborhood electronics shop for now but it’s coming soon and we thought that with all the buzz about them, it would be a good time to talk about how they stack up with the LED TVs on the market today.

Because make no mistake, existing LEDs are outstanding, too.

First off, what’s the difference?

The main one is that OLED TVs do not require a backlight. They make their own light with an electric current that runs through the organic diodes. In the case of existing LED TVs, the light created by the diodes is driven through a liquid crystal display. So, while it eliminates the old style backlight, there are still a few layers that add to the thickness.

Now, what happens when you pit LG’s 55-inch OLED TV against an average LED backlit TV?

Slimness

LG’s 55-inch OLED TV is not only the world’s largest TV, but also the world’s lightest and slimmest. Despite its large 55-inch screen size, it weighs just 7.5kgs and the side profile measures in at a mere 4mms. That’s right, the equivalent of 3 credit cards put together! On the other hand, even the slimmest of LED backlit TVs generally measure slightly more than 30mm. Now, we don’t mean to pick on LEDs because we love them and, let’s face it, three centimeters is still pretty thin! But 4mm…that’s really something else!

Contrast and Black Levels

LED TVs have to use dimming technology to create dark areas. This means that black levels will be dark, but they can never be truly black. OLED TVs, on the other hand, can simply turn off the areas of the screen that, depending on the scene, need to turn black. On top of that, OLEDs boasts an infinite contrast ratio, displaying the smallest color details with the utmost accuracy and clarity. Put the two together, and you have the ultimate color experience. That’s why the contrast ratios between the brightest and the darkest areas cannot compare to existing LED TVs in the market today.

Color Accuracy

Again, because the OLED lights up organically, OLED TVs have the ability to create virtually every single color in the spectrum. Not so in LED TVs, which need to push light though an LCD matrix to produce the required color. The process of creating colors for OLED TVs is much simpler and much more accurate, resulting in truly rich color experiences. The LEDs do a more than admirable job but the OLEDs will always one-up them.

Viewing Angle

Nothing can compete with an OLED TV when it comes to viewing angles. Seen from any angle, in any position, the colors of the OLED will remain consistent and incredibly sharp. LEDs promise a major step up from existing LCDs when it comes to viewing angles for many of the same reasons. But they can’t match the OLEDs on this score either.

Truly Green

Actually, LED backlit TVs are quite energy efficient. Starting from energy consumption to lighter packaging, the technology is far more eco-friendly than CCFL backlit LCD TVs. But they just can’t do what an OLED can. Without the need for a backlight of any kind, OLED TVs consumes far less energy, either when in use or in standby mode. On top of that, because they are so slim and light, they let us reduce packaging materials and enable more efficient delivery around the world.

Hardware

The phone has unique shape with curved edges and curved bottom. The first thing you notice about the phone is the Ultra AMOLED display. The 3.8-inch (800 X 480 pixels) 16M color display is perfect with vibrant colors especially black color that looks good while watching videos and playing games. The capacitive touch screen is quite responsive.

There is VGA camera at the top next to the ear piece.

There are capacitive touch buttons for menu, home and back, below the display that lights up on response and has haptic feedback.

The volume rocker is on the right.

The power / lock button, USB port with plastic cover and the 3.5mm audio jack are at the top.

The phone is sleek at just 9.8mm and weighs 107g.

There is a 5MP CMOS Auto focus camera at the back.

When you open the back cover, you can see the microSD card slot at the top next to the SIM card slot along with the 1500 mAh battery below that.

Camera

The 5MP shooter takes good shots. There is auto focus with touch focus option that lets you focus a particular space. There is face tracking no macro mode in the setting. There are different modes including, Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night and Sunset. Other Camera camera options include option to change image size, ISO settings (Auto, 400, 200 and 100), White Balance (Auto, Incandescent, Sunny, Florescent and Cloudy), Timer, Image quality, Shutter sounds and Geo tagging. There are also on-screen camera options such as digital zoom (up to 4x), Contrast and scene modes (Mono, Negative, Solarize, Sepia and Aqua). You can switch to the front VGA camera to take images and make video calls. The lack of LED flash and dedicated camera button is disappointing.

The video camera option lets you record videos at 720p HD resolution at 30fps. The video quality is not great and it focuses every time when you focus and object. You can mute the audio recording. Other features such are similar to the image mode.

Software

UI

The UI is similar to the other LG Optimus phones. It has slide to unlock option similar to other LG Optimus phones. There is a weather app and standard bottom bar with dialer, contacts, text messages and Applications. You can have up to 7 home screens with one screen as default.

To add widgets, shortcuts and folders or change the wallpaper, you need to long press the screen that would list the widgets and shorts and you could simply touch them to add it on the screen. You can also add apps and folders in the similar way.

The notification bar has shortcuts to control the Sound, WiFi , Bluetooth , GPS and Data. It has gesture controls for different actions including calls, video playback, alarm etc.

Apps

The phone comes with Gmail, Google Search, Google +, Polaris document Viewer (Excel, Power Point, Word, PDF) and YouTube. SmartShare app enable you share music and video to DLNA compatible media devices. The Wi-Fi Cast App can detect and connect the nearby Wi-Fi Cast supported devices automatically to transfer images, videos and music in hi-speed. The utility apps include Calculator, Calendar, Clock and Voice Recorder. There is Social+ widget to connect to Facebook, Twitter and Myspace from a single place.

The recent applications can be viewed from the home screen when you press and hold the home button. There is no app manager in the recent app list like some of the other LG phones but you can access it from the settings.

The application manager lets your view running and installed app and shows the RAM usage. There is LG World and Google Play Store (previously Android Market) to download more apps. The 1GB internal memory is more than sufficient to store more apps. You can also moved supported apps to the microSD card that is expandable up to 32GB.

Media Player and FM Radio

The Music Player supports MP3, WAV, AAC and WMA audio formats. The sound quality good with the bundled headphones and the loud-speaker. The video player support 720p HD video playback which is smooth that support multiple codec formats including MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 and DivX.

The FM Radio has RDS support and auto scan option with channel shortcuts at the bottom. You can also edit the station name manually and can change to loudspeaker / headphone using listen via button below.

The browser is similar to the one present in other LG Optimus devices. There are tabbed browsing support and different options such as remember passwords and default search engine. It also has flash support.

The browser managed to score 182 in the HTML5 test.

Dialer and Messaging

The Dialer is similar to other Android devices. The call log display recent incoming, outgoing and missed calls. You could Sync from your Google contacts and also import contacts from SIM and export it to SIM or MicroSD card.

You can make a video call to a contact by pressing video call option inside contact details. The Messaging supports individual and group messaging and has a standard LG keyboard to input. The phone has default LG e-mail support (Microsoft Exchange, Others, Google Mail, AOL, Yahoo!, Hotmail) other than the Gmail app.

The phone has 3G support with HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi b/g/n with hotspot feature, DLNA and Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 3.0 and a Micro USB port.. It also has On Screen Phone function v2.0 lets you see your phone screen on the PC via Bluetooth/ USB.

Verdict

The eye-catching Ultra AMOLED display is a plus for this phone. The apps and games are faster with the 1GHz processor. The battery life is also good that lasts more than a day with average use with few phone calls, browsing on 3G and few hours of audio playback. You can manage without the dedicated camera button on the phone but a 5MP camera without flash is a bit disappointing if you want to capture images in low-light.

We’ve been doing a lot of listening, and here are our answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about OLED TVs.

1. Why is the industry buzz suddenly all about OLED TVs?

Actually, OLED technology is not new. In fact, it’s widely used in gadgets with smaller displays, like your smart phones. But it is not easy to make at larger sizes. In fact, the larger it gets, the more difficult it is to make. But new technological advancements have allowed manufacturers to overcome the key technical difficulties, enabling us to successfully unveil the world’s first 55-inch OLED TV at the 2012 CES.

2. What does OLED stand for?

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. The key letter is “O”. We’ve all heard of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and seen them widely used as backlights for TVs and in other devices. But because OLED is organic, there is no need for a backlight. When electricity is applied through a current, the diodes light up organically. In fact, this would also be the answer if you had asked “how did you get it so thin?” No backlight means we were able to make ours just 4mm thin!

3. What one is better? OLED or LED?

Tough question! We love LEDs, and you’ll be seeing a lot of high-end LED TVs in the market for years to come. They produce excellent colors, are very slim, and are more energy efficient than CCFL backlit LCD TVs. But where LEDs perform well, OLEDs perform even better. The colors are much more accurate. The designs are even slimmer. And OLEDs are even more energy efficient than their LED counterparts.

4. Are OLEDs 3D?

Absolutely! LG’s 55-inch OLED TV offers the same widely acclaimed CINEMA 3D technology available on all our CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, with the same comfortable and lightweight glasses. But the 3D picture quality is better than ever because it generates perfect blacks without any cross-talk. And it does so at lightning fast response speeds and a very wide viewing angle. (Cross-talk, aka image ghosting, is what you sometimes see on 3D TVs using what’s called active technology, when the left and right images overlap or are misaligned.)

5. What are these “White OLEDs” we keep hearing about?

Most TVs generate colors by mixing red, green and blue. In fact, another OLED TV unveiled at the CES by one of our competitors uses RGB OLED, which works fine for smaller displays on mobile devices, but not so great when it comes to larger TV displays.

LG has made OLED TVs much more efficient to manufacture by using what we call White OLED technology. It mixes red, green, and blue OLED colors generating a white OLED color. These pure 4 colors are then perfected through LG’s Color Refiner, which provides an astounding range of colors and that incredible viewing angle that we talked about above.

6. When can I get one?

Actually, we’re not far away from mass producing large screen OLED TVs for home entertainment use. LG promised at the 2012 CES to bring its beautiful award winning OLED TV to consumers this year.

LG has launched a new range Direct Cool Refrigerators for the 215 litres and above. It has a new blaze handle for better grip and a chamfer design which gives it enhanced elegance. The New Digital Auto Defrost technology is equipped with a microprocessor that senses time & temperature to defrost the refrigerator automatically. The external micom gives an easy access to controls of the refrigerator. The LG Digital Auto Defrost Refrigerator has an Express Ice feature in which ice formation happens 40% faster than the normal ice making time. It enables the customer to over ride the defrosting for urgent ice making. LG Digital Auto Defrost refrigerator ensures a hassle-free experience for customers even at homes where there are frequent and prolonged power cut.

It’s a big investment,  so our advice is this: “Know your tech, make better choices.”

What you might not have known is that the majority of the so-called “LED TVs” on the market today are actually LCD TVs with LED backlighting. Since LCD panels cannot emit light by themselves, they require a light source. Previous LCD TVs had CCFL backlights which are not bad, but are generally darker and hungrier for power than the more recent LED backlights that are powering many of the LCD TVs today. The new ones are not only brighter, their pictures are clearer and they are definitely easier on the electric bill.

Sounds great, right? But there are different types and the differences can be good to know about.Let’s walk through them.

1. Edge-lit LED TVs: Slim but Inconsistent Lighting

LED lights are much brighter than the old-style CCFL backlights, which are made from flourescent lighting. Taking advantage of their brightness, manufacturers placed the LEDs to the sides of the display, hence the term “edge-lit.” The LEDs at the sides projected light towards to the center of the display through “lightguides.” Edge-lit means a lot less LEDs over full array, making TVs thinner and more energy efficient. But these TVs aren’t without their shortcomings. Because all the LEDs are located towards the side of the display, the lighting is not completely consistent throughout the entire display. Even if your TV is displaying one single color, the edges may look brighter than the rest.

2. Full Array LED: Precision Manufacturing for Better Picture Quality

In terms of brightness consistency, the so-called full array LED backlit LCD TVs have a definite upper hand. All the LEDs are placed behind the panel, so they show consistent brightness throughout the entire display. However, the precision required in placing these LEDs is not an easy task, and because more LEDs are required to make the full array LED backlight work, the LCD TV tends to come with a slightly more expensive price tag. Different manufacturers refer to full array LED TVs differently. LG calls them FULL LEDs.

3. NANO FULL LED: Brighter and Darker

But the real advantage of full array backlighting comes with something that LG calls NANO FULL LED, also known as local dimming. Depending on the picture input, the LEDs constantly turn on and off, making some areas darker and others brighter. This gives these displays much deeper blacks, and a much higher contrast ratio. This technology is not available with standard CCFL backlighting or most edge-lit LED backlit TVs, as they use “global dimming,” where the whole backlight brightens or dims together. NANO FULL LED TVs produce better contrasts and also conserve energy, powering up only the areas you need. Although a handful of edge-lit LEDs offer similar technology, where parts of the TV darkens and parts stay lighted, they cannot be called true local dimming, as the LEDs are not placed behind the entire panel.

4. Organic LED TVs: Razor Slim with Flawless Pictures

Those panels are all great technological success stories, but how about a panel that produces its own light? Without a backlight, it would be thinner and use even less electricity.

Well, they do exist and we call them Organic LEDs, or OLEDs. It is the true LED TV.

There are so many advantages to these it’s hard to know where to start. Come to think of it, it’s easy, just look at the profile. With no backlight, they are razor thin, just milimeters, really. The secret is that everything is packed in a superthin film that emits light when electricity is applied.

But as they say about books, you should never judge a TV by its great cover. OLED TVs are stunningly thin but that’s not all. They also deliver flawless pictures never before seen in the world of flatpanel TVs. Because the light is organic, the contrast levels are infinite with amazing blacks. It also means you can view your TV from any angle without seeing the changes in color you normally see on a conventional LCD TV.

For picture quality, OLED beats the competition hands down. Unfortunately at the moment, these TVs have limited availability and the prices are a bit steep. But don’t be too disappointed because LG is planning to release breathtakingly slim OLED TVs for general consumers very soon! With that in mind, if you want a reasonably priced LED TV with great picture quality, a full array LED backlit TV with local dimming technology is definitely for you. In fact, LG has a wide range of FULL LED LG CINEMA 3D TVs available that not only deliver great pictures, they’re also cased in superslim designs!

Some of the camera features in the LG Optimus Sol E730 include geo-tagging and face detection. Again, videos can be made using the 720p@30fps capability, which otherwise dwarfs against the Nokia 808 PureView’s full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world’s first use of Nokia Rich Recording.

Well, this phone too does not have a stylus! Actually, all or most of the Android OS based smartphones are coming without the stylus, and one wonders why! The phone uses a standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery, with stand-by time of up to 100 hours and talk time up to 4 hours.

As for the applications or apps, they are all standard now on smartphones! Even the LG Optimus Sol E730 is packed with loads! Besides the regular ones — such as Alarm/Clock, Browser, Camera, Contacts, E-mail, Facebook, FM Radio, GMail, Google Search, Maps, Messaging, Music, News and Weather, there are some new ones as well. For instance, SmartShare alllows you to play and share content from any wireless device via this mobile phone. It requires Wi-Fi settings to operate.

Here’s how it works: First of all, throw away all your cables because you won’t need them. You won’t even need a wireless internet network in your house. Using your notebook’s Wi-Fi chip, the TV will automatically make a connection with the Wi-Fi chip embedded into the CINEMA 3D Smart TV and that’s it. You’re ready to stream all that great content.

And if you’re wondering whether you’ll also be able to connect to your regular WiFi while your notebook is talking to your TV, the answer is an emphatic yes! That means you can surf the web while watching videos stored in your notebook computer, right on your big screen TV, all in real-time.

The partnership was unveiled at the CES inLas Vegasin January and we couldn’t be more excited about it. You may have heard of Google TV from other manufactures before, but this isn’t like anything you’ve seen or heard of. This is a coming together of Google’s wildly popular Android OS with LG’s outstanding 3D and Smart TV technology.

Now, we don’t say this often but, let’s forget for a moment about all those great features we pack into our TVs. The first thing that will strike you is that it’s so easy to use. The combination of the Android based interface and apps, with the Magic Remote specially designed for the TV works, well, like magic.

The Google TV Magic Remote developed by LG has more than a few tricks up its sleeve. It works like the standard Magic Remote with an on screen pointer. You can wave it around and hover the pointer to what you want to access and click. There’s also a directional pad on the remote, so you can surf from on box to another with a simple click of the arrow. When you’re surfing pages of content, you also have a scroll wheel, getting rid of the need to search for the scroll bar on your screen.

But the real secret is in the backside of the remote. Whenever you miss your keyboard when surfing the web, flip your Magic Remote over and you’ll see a full Qwerty keyboard waiting for you. And what good is a Google TV without Google’s popular Chrome browser and the world’s most popular search engine?

The Vegas venue has been cleared out, and the manufacturers and reporters have all packed their bags and returned home. But the amazing products unveiled at the 2012 CES are still the talk of the industry.

Here’s a roundup of all the great responses we’ve had from the media about our Home Entertainment products at the 2012 CES.

LG 55-inch OLED TV

They just can’t get enough of it. In fact, if there was one single most talked about product at the show, it’s definitely LG’s 55-inch OLED TV. This stunningly beautiful unit stole the hearts of reporters and took the entire show by storm. Even before the CES kicked off, it was the center of media attention, and the response upon unveiling was that it was well worth the buzz. And before we forget, it is the world’s largest, the world’s slimmest (4mm), and world’s lightest (7.5kg) OLED TV.

Engadget, a well-known tech review site, called the incredible picture “razor sharp.” The Verge, another renowned tech review site, said the colors, contrast and viewing angles were “too awesome for us to count pixels.”

Business Review USA mentioned that, “The picture on the OLED TV is incredible.”

Now, we weren’t the only manufacturer to unveil a 55-inch OLED, but CNET agreed with us that ours is tops when it named LG’s 55-inch OLED TV as Best of Show in CES.

The New CINEMA 3D Smart TVs with a Bezel up to 1mm Thin

The funny thing about the bezel on our New CINEMA 3D TVs is that it is barely noticeable. In fact if we didn’t say anything about it, you’d probably think the TVs didn’t have one. But if you must know, the thinnest of our new models measures just 1mm! Sitting comfy on your couch, that’s virtually invisible.

And the reporters were thoroughly impressed. Tech Radar called our 1mm bezels “outrageous.” CNET went as far as to say that it is “one of the most beautiful TVs the company has announced.”

LG Google TV

Several manufacturers introduced a new Google TV at 2012, and LG’s very own version, together with our amazing 3D technology, made quite a splash.

The LG Google TV comes with a specially designed Magic Remote with a Qwerty keyboard. And among other things, this remote is what the press fell in love with the most. Engadget commented that the “Magic Remote Qwerty is probably our favorite out of the three options presented at CES.”

The interface of LG’s Google TV also caught their eyes. T3, aUK based tech review site, said they “felt instantly comfortable with how the interface was laid out.

Based on the wildly popular Android OS, LG provided an interface with easy navigation and browsing experience. It also has convenient multi-tasking support, letting users simultaneously run searches and access social media features while watching their TV. Naturally we couldn’t miss out on such a great event and opportunity, so we loaded up our gear and went to check out the scene.

To no surprise, the venue was packed with manufacturers boasting their latest state-of-the-art technologies and products. Hopping from booth to booth, it was hard not be dazzled by all the cool technology. It was everywhere and it was impressive!

Also not surprisingly, it wasn’t difficult to find LG at the exhibition. In fact, the highlight of the entire show was right there at the entrance of the LG Booth: a massive 3D screen that was simply breathtaking. The pictures were literally popping out of the screen and we couldn’t wait to get inside.

So we picked up our lightweight 3D glasses at the entrance of the booth and in we went. By the way, picking up 3D glasses at the entrance of an LG booth has become a hallmark for all our LG events. There was even a choice: regular glasses, or clip-ons.

And from the moment we put those glasses on, well, it was a brave new world of 3D that opened before our eyes. From the LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs to the 3D X-Note Notebook Computers, 3D Games, and even to the 3D sound home theater systems, it was a 3D experience that only LG could offer.

There was so much fun to be had at the LG booth for everyone! 

While manufacturers at other booths were busy touting their advanced technologies, LG gracefully took its tech leadership in 3D and presented an unforgettable experience for visitors. From infants to adults, locals to foreigners, everyone at the booth had a real blast experiencing LG’s 3D world. After all, although people are well aware that LG is a leader in 3D, and one of the few leading manufacturers of consumer electronics in general, what good would all that leadership in technology be if the people using it couldn’t have a great time enjoying it?

We tried to bring back the excitement of the event through this post. But our words may not be enough to captivate all the fun and energy. That’s why this time around we tried something a little different. We took one of LG’s Optimus 3D, a glasses-free 3D Smartphone, and brought back 3D pictures from the event. Some 5,600 films and documentaries from more than 40 countries were on show at the New York event. Star turns included Cameron Crowe with “The Union,” his first film in six years, and Will Ferrell, who lent his comedic talents to the low-budget comedy “Everything Must Go.”

Just as exciting, however, was the vast selection of films from lesser-known talents, including productions fromSouth Africa,Norwayand across the United States that tackled everything from avant-garde poets to children with photographic memories.

Eager to help foster the adventurous talents of tomorrow, LG provided students from the Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, in Chicago, with equipment and technical support to help them produce a series of shorts with the company’s latest 3D technology, CINEMA 3D. The films also debuted at this year’s festival, on a series of CINEMA 3D TVs and Blu-ray™ players in venues throughout lower Manhattan.

 “Our students and faculty are so happy to have had this opportunity to use the latest in digital film and 3D technology,” said Audrey Welling, a senior producer at the academy. “It certainly gave them an edge as they leave the classroom and start their careers.”

“As a student it’s important to be able to learn how to shoot 3D, how to edit 3D, how to master 3D, because it’s the way of the future,” said Stephen Fletcher, a student at the academy.

Of note among the submitted films, “The Flying Wallendas Highwire Family,” turned heads by successfully capturing the tension of live high wire performances in the 3D format. Viewers also enjoyed an animated short, “The Universe of 3D,” which showed how LG’s 2D logo could be transformed into a compelling visual experience.

 By providing students with the skills they need to create 3D films of their own, the joint project with Tribeca is also aiming to push creation of the kind of inventive, daring content that can make 3D such a thrilling medium for home entertainment.

“We hope that our alliance with Tribeca and the Tribeca Flashpoint Academy will inspire more young filmmakers to create 3D content for consumers to enjoy,” said John Weinstock, Vice President of Marketing for LG. “The 3D films created by these students already capture the exciting possibilities of the 3D experience.”

At the ripe old age of 10, the Tribeca Festival has matured into one of the leading outlets for creative, left field filmmaking in the United States. As 3D moves from the creative fringes to the mainstream, it’s thrilling to know that some of the cream of the country’s cinematic talent will be fulfilling De Niro’s vision, and discovering just how powerful 3D can be.

On April 21, LG held one of the most ambitious events in its history as it launched its new CINEMA 3D TVs inEurope. In the beautiful Grand Palais in Paris, LG invited 1,500 stars, media, retailers and customers to what would be the biggest ever screening of a 3D movie on the biggest ever 3D screen – facts now acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

Paris, known for beautiful scenery and rich history, is one of the most visited cities in the world. Once the center of a sprawling empire,France’s capital now stands as a cultural marvel and a showcase of human endeavor.

Then, there is the Grand Palais, a magnificent structure built in 1900 for the World’s Fair. Used to stage everything from grand exhibitions to horse-riding contests, it is better known as a symbol of innovation and modernity.

Our France marketing team thought that such a symbolic place – which has inspired the public with art and technology for over 100 years – would be the perfect venue to launch our CINEMA 3D. And they were absolutely right!

With the venue secured, visualizing the event was exciting – overwhelming, even. With some big decisions and the full support of our top brass, we collaborated with six teams from LG HQ and theFranceoffice to plan the most ambitious event I’ve been part of in more than 10 years of marketing.

The challenges were many and daunting. Due to government regulations, booking the Grand Palais would ordinarily have to be done more than a year in advance – we had two months. In that time, we had to pull out all the stops to persuade the authorities to let us use the Grand Palais, while we simultaneously planned an event that would normally take at least six months to pull off.

Most galling of all, though, was ensuring the event befitted the stature of the venue. We originally pitched the event as the biggest ever 3D movie screening for the public – but we knew that even this wouldn’t be enough. The authorities in charge of Grand Palais are very strict about its events not being too “commercial,” so we had to come up with something really creative, but which also clearly communicated what makes CINEMA 3D so special.

Our solution was to turn the Grand Palais into a “total 3D playground.” As visitors wandered around with their CINEMA 3D glasses, they would pass an entire side of the Grand Palais set up as an “experience zone,” where they could see for themselves the difference between CINEMA 3D TVs and competing 3D sets. Nearby would be a section of 3D video games, 3D projectors and 3D computer monitors, while the halls inside were lined with the latest CINEMA 3D TVs broadcasting the entire event live in 3D.

At the “experience zone” at the Paris launch event, visitors had a chance to see for themselves the difference between CINEMA 3D and older technologies.

The other side of the Palais was transformed into a breathtaking 3D movie theater, with space for 1,500 viewers. LG in fact set two world records that night: the biggest ever 3D movie screening, and the largest 3D projection screen (27 meters by 11 meters).

In keeping with the theatrical atmosphere, we hired Isabelle Giordano, a prominent move critic, to host the show, and invited along actor Sophie Marceau, director Claude Lelouch, and a host of other top French celebrities. There were turns from French magician Dani Lary and Brazilian dance troupe Brasilian Ambience. And, of course, we screened the 3D animation blockbusterRIO, which had opened just a few weeks prior to the event.

Managing the entire event, which also included a daytime show for press and sales staff, was a formidable undertaking. Adding to the fun were the cultural differences between our teams fromKoreaand the French staff on the ground. In one nail-biting example, we encountered difficulties when testing the 3D videos before the main event.

With just two hours remaining in which to fix it, the technical staff went for lunch for a little over an hour. But when they came back, with 30 minutes to spare, they promptly fixed the equipment right up, and it worked perfectly. Among many other things, we learned that the French style of doing things – though very different from ours inKorea! – can work wonders.

No. 1 FPR vs. Conventional 3D
Consumers really caught 3D fever this year and what really had people interested was all the new technology that makes high quality home 3D viewing comfortable and affordable. Much of the discussion had to do with the differences between LG CINEMA 3D TVs FPR technology and conventional 3D TV types. Some tech experts have called FPR “passive,” in contrast to conventional types of 3D TVs that need active-shutter glasses. Unlike active shutter-type glasses, FPR glasses do not have batteries or wires, and you can view the screen from a wide angle instead of having to sit up straight.

No. 2 3D Glasses
Now, the thing about 3D glasses is that they can either be really ugly, or kind of cool looking.

 There are different types and, because people were checking out 3D TVs and learning about the different types this year, it’s no surprise they were also talking online about which ones were better looking and more comfortable. This is where LG was really able to stand out. Because of the FPR technology, LG’s glasses are light, cool looking, and affordable. On top of that, they are safe for your eyes, and we know this is important to families out there. Active-shutter glasses can cause some dizziness, especially after viewing for a long time. But as we’ve written elsewhere, FPR glasses are certified flicker-free and won’t hurt your eyes.

No. 3 Smart
In some markets, like LG’s home market of Korea, Smart would definitely be the top keyword. Smart devices are everywhere and everyone is talking about them. And now, TVs are hitting the market with Smart features, meaning that TV is no longer just something that you watch, it’s something you do ! Smart TVs give users quick and easy access to a new world of fun and internet connectivity without a computer. Smart also means being linked to a variety of high quality 3D videos on demand. It’s like having the best of all worlds in your TV.

No. 4 Intuitive Input Devices
TVs do a lot more than they used to. (see No. 3 above!) With all the new smart features, it’s not surprising that there are also new input devices. Some manufacturers provide QWERTY keyboard or Touch pad type remote controls while other stick with the traditional format with a bunch of keys. Then there is LG’s Magic Motion Remote Control, which many users have praised for being very intuitive. LG studied all the key functions that we use on a regular basis and boiled the remote down to just seven keys, making it very easy to use while sacrificing nothing in terms of features. And the best part is that all you have to do is point and click on the on-screen menus.

No. 5 3D Audio Effect
For a long time, Surround Sound set the standard for listening by widening the sound. But after home theater systems came out, and 3D TVs appeared on the scene, people began talking about the possibility of 3D sound, which delivers sounds outside the stereo basis. With a great set of 3D speakers, you don’t just hear bullets whizzing by you on the right or left, now you hear things above and below as well. Seeing it and hearing it in 3D can be a heart-stopping experience, letting you enjoy the true reality of the world in a glorious three dimensional environment right in your own living room.

Those are our top picks for the first half of 2011. It’s getting hard to imagine talking about TVs without Smart and 3D in the same sentence. Perhaps the only other word we could add to the list is “pure TV enjoyment”!

Earlier this year, LG changed the 3D TV landscape forever with its Film Patterned Retarder-type (FPR) 3D technology. It was an emphatic statement, that 3D TVs do not have to be expensive and that viewing can be comfortable. Previous active versions caused headaches and dizziness, and lacked adequate 3D content. With FPR technology, the glasses became light and affordable, and the flickering images were vanquished.

Thomson Reuters wasn’t the only outfit to take notice. Respected media like the tech blog Gizmodo and PC Magazine also reviewed our products, putting our 3D tech on the top of their lists.

FPR-type 3D technology also makes possible a full ecosystem of products that work together seamlessly to make 3D content creation accessible and enjoyable for the whole family. The ecosystem includes TVs, notebook computers, monitors, mobile devices (phones and tablets), and 3D projectors. Working in concert, these products let consumers create, share, and enjoy the same great 3D content on any 3D device with the same pair of glasses.
